Altimeter question (I've never used one)
hey folks,
I'm thinking of throwing a bicycle computer with altimeter function in the payload section of a model rocket to record how high my flights are. Two questions:
1. will the altimeter work without a wheel sensor starting things off? In other words does that function work if you just carry it around?
2. does the max altitude get recorded for viewing later?

You can pay $100 for fancy ones that will record the entire flight.
A bike computer is accurate enough to measure 700 foot flights, but the ones I'm familiar with only look at the altitude once every few seconds. That won't work for a rocket flight.

I've got a Polar 720i, and I think it would work, but the polling inerval has a minimum of 5 seconds. Would it even get a reading.
Do some telemetry. Measure a distance back and then sight it to get an angle. Can then calculate the hight pretty cloesly (at least for basic backyard fun).
