my new bike's tires
Hi,
In November, I ordered a Trek 7300FXS (worth $899 NZD). It wasn't going to be in the shop until December. They said they'd ring when it came in. In January, this month, I rung up to find out what the holdup was. It turns out they forgot to order it in the first place. To cut a long story short, they offered me a Mongoose Crossway 850 (worth $1199 NZD). After much deliberation, I decided the Mongoose Crossway 850 was a better bike. I got it a few days ago, and am VERY happy with it. I've just got a few questions: It's got 622x18 Alex Adventurer rims. What is the narrowest tire size that I could comfortably get on here? It's riding on Hutchinson Acrobat 700x32c tires currently, which have quite a bit of tread i.e. not slick. http://www.universalcycles.com/image...medium/964.jpg Do you think that changing to slicker tires such as All Condition Armadillos would make a difference to the rolling resistance? Thanks Paddy. |
Absolutely. I switched my hybrid's knobby tires (700x28) for WTB Slickasaurus tires (700x27) and the difference in rolling resistance is quite noticeable. I ride almost exclusively on paved streets, so I really have no need for knobby tires.
