Recently I bought a child seat to put on the back of my bike. My son loves it. He will be two years old next month, and he already understands and uses words like ride and bike.

Yesterday I showed up at my house after work with a nail in my back tire. The nail had punctured my tire, went through my tube, and was sticking about an inch out of my expensive rim. I was really bummed out because I had just purchased the bike seat the day before. When I got home, my son was standing at the door saying, "bike...ok....bike....ok." He cried for a while when I said there would be no ride today. I had to take my bike to the LBS to see if the rim was salvagable. It is okay, so today we rode all over the town.

I'm really looking forward to future rides with my son, especially if when he gets to be a bit older he wants to ride, like someone said, 50 to 75 miles a week. I'll have to say that my two year old is my favorite riding partner right now.

So who is your favorite partner for riding and why?

Great story AF, you'll spend lots of quality time with your son.

I just started my almost 2 yr old grandaughter in a bike trailer,
and she seems to like it, too. She pulls us toward the garden shed
where we keep it and even tries to pull it out herself. I'm hoping
that eventually we'll be able to ride together, with her on a bike.

Other than that, I guess I have to say that I'm my own favourite riding
partner.

The advantages are: I'm always around for a ride with my
extemely irregular schedule; I never have to worry if I can keep up
to myself; I can't drop myself; I don't have to worry about helmet hair
or sweating; and I can always stand the company.

The disadvantages: I have to motivate myself to go riding (not a problem!)


Without quite so much tongue in cheek, though, I do enjoy a leisurely ride around
park with my SO, on the weekends, with no destination, training or mileage to pile up,
just an enjoyable time.

My favorite riding partner is now deceased. However I do have his son, but I cannot take him places like his dad. He ws a Pit Bull, Boxer mix, and had the greatest stamina of any dog I have ever seen. He was also a great trail clearer. When we used to do alot of riding in Va. occasioanlly we would see deer or fox, or some other potetially dangerous obstacle. Well needless to say it ws not there when we go to it. Also he loved to play follow the leader which gave us a superb workout, considering you could not catch him on a trail. He listened to all commands while moving which was great you say left, boom he went left. Having said all that the LBS also liked him. Yes that is right yuo could take him in the shop he knew everyone there, and some of the people looked forward to seeing him.

I usually ride alone because, due to tricky schedules, I just grab a ride when I can. With planning, my friend Dave is the best guy to ride with. We've been riding for 11 years, and he's quiet when I'm quiet and chatty when I am.

Also, girls think he's good looking. You always get good service from waitresses when eating out with him.

My favourite riding partner is my friend Dave. We ride when we can during summer and winter. He even conformed me into buying a hybrid (which I bought today). I'll finally be able to match his top cruising speed.
Of course my girlfriend is a close second. I bought her her first bicycle a few weeks ago as her birthday present. She loves it but insists on riding late at night because there's less traffic then. I give her a year and she'll be tearing around the city with the best of them.

It's natural to be wary or fearful of traffic at first, but it didn't take me long to find out that you're basically dealing with one or two cars at a time, even at rush hour. There may be a sea of cars, but most of them are where they can't interact with you! I can only remember one time that I was harassed at rush hour; the other times have been when the road was almost deserted--perhaps because there were fewer witnesses, and perhaps because rush-hour drivers have more of a sense of purpose.
