So it's not just me.

And what's really weird is it happens, likely as not, on a blind curve or hill, after you've been riding for miles with no traffic in either direction.

You come unclipped at the most inopportune time.

You are unable to get clipped in before you REALLY need to be.

Damn SPD's...

Relativity law:

In western hemisphere after 100 km cycling the distance between adjacent miles posts on a trail increases from 1.609 km to approximately 3 km.

newmtb 11-15-02 09:22 AM

The more confident you become on a trail, thus the faster you go the more likely you are to fly over the handle bars and serious over extend three fingers between the handlebars and brake lever. ( happened when i first started but i was bound to hurt myself i was due for it)

If you need to loosen a bolt, it won't. If you don't want it to come loose, it will.

lotek 11-15-02 11:09 AM

The last 2 miles of a century are exactly 5 miles in
length

A T-shirt, which dries on balcony for 30 minutes, never dries on a tour. Even after 2 days in the sun it would be still wet.

No matter how careful you are in selecting a place for the tent, there will be a stone under your mat.

The water in a kettle will never start boiling on a camping gas, if you look at the kettle.

RollingGeek 11-15-02 06:48 PM

On the day that you simply cannot go riding, it will be the nicest day of the season AND you will see more cyclists than you usually see.

I know this, because this was today.

Grrrrr.............

Pete Clark 11-15-02 11:27 PM

If you have an injury of any kind, that will be the part of you that bumps into things all day long.

When you finally break down and buy the latest and greatest bicycle gadget... a better version is released the next day - and it's on sale!

Scooby Snax 11-17-02 06:26 PM

The day after you break your wrist, the sun comes out, the temperature slides up above normal, and you have no household jobs to do... (ok can do!)

That was definitely yesterday for me.

For me, especially as a relative beginner, this couldn't me more true. I agree 100%. There are so many things out there right now that are on my wish list it's ridiculous.

As soon as you read a thread titled Murphy's Laws of Cycling and laugh at least one of the laws will befall you in relative time.

nathank 11-18-02 05:06 AM

when mountain biking i always wreck and fall to the RIGHT side despite the fact that my injuries my right hand and shoulder from my last fall have not yet healed...

i have fallen 5 times this season (all between July and November) and all 5 i have injured my right shoulder and various fingers on my right hand (my right pinky is currently totaly swollen and black/purple from yesterday's crash and my index finger is still swollen from my wrecks in July, September and October)

Sailguy 11-18-02 09:50 AM

As you get more educated on cycling, you realize that the LBS you started off going to doesn't have a clue about cycling. In fact you aren't sure they did anything when you took your bike in for a tune up. Now that you have found a good one, that has peope who actually ride behind the counter, you wish you went there originally.

- As time passes I realize how much that first bike shop was horrible. Noone there has a clue.

Trekaholic 11-19-02 11:27 PM

If you ride against the wind, uphill away from home when you're stronger at the start of a ride, some freak of geography and meterology will give you the same opportunity on the way home.

Trekaholic 11-19-02 11:29 PM

There's always a fleece-wearing dork on a 30-lb Huffy that can outsprint you, so don't make fun of the streamers on his handlebars.

Trekaholic 11-19-02 11:40 PM

If you ever ride by an Air Force base, you'll never hear the F-14 coming up from behind until the vibration sends your nervous system or colon into overdrive. I hate when this happens.

Just remember - when one F-14 comes up behind you, the next one isn't far behind.

Alexey 11-19-02 11:46 PM

The less time you have to reach an office on your commute, the more likely the tire will hit a dog's excrement on the way.

Sounds like the voice of experience. Nest time get a picture of him/her. I'd like to see that.

Sailguy 11-20-02 12:40 PM

If you really like to keep your ride statistics, and track actual ride time (with lights), you will forget to turn off the timer when you stop for coffee.

Pete Clark 11-20-02 08:38 PM

On the morning you don't feel like cycling in, you do anyway; you turn in one of your best times and end the day feeling like a million.

Alexey 11-21-02 11:16 AM

If you buy some cycling accessories: gloves, glasses, computer, etc., but which you do not like later, you will never lose them, and they will never get out of order.

But if you like such a thing, then watch out - in a short period of time it be either lost or stepped on.

AlphaGeek 11-22-02 10:33 AM

Hopefullly this only applies in Georgia, but probably not...

If a car is behind you, and there is only one curve in the road...he will decide to pass...just as you are both rounding the curve! Then he will look in the rearview mirror, as if to say, "Hey Mr. Cyclist, you sure were crowding me there!" Yikes!!!
