No longer live there, but there are tons of trails within riding distance of town - RAttlesnake, Blue Mountain, and Patty Canyon all have good riding. And best of all, once your more than a half mile from the trailhead it's rare to run into other trail users. Best bet is to find someone to ride with. Check out the local IMBA affiliate LIMB - they do regular group rides during the summer. Also stop into shops for suggestions - Open Road, Missoula Bike Works, and the Bike Doctor folks should all be able to give you good trail info.

Oh, how I miss Missoula....

The Rattlesnake is a good place to go, up Pattee Canyon, or Blue Mountain...all that's pretty close, and most you can ride your bike to. There are some trails out of Hamilton, I think. The Bike Doctor on Higgins can probably give some ideas.

Enjoy!
