Looking to upgrade my tires on my new 7.5FX. I noticed the stock 700x32 Botranger tires aren't my best pick for all-road use.

My questions is... Will I be able to fit 700x28's on these stock wheels? Any recommendations on specific tires that would work good on the bike? I mainly do rural roads about 30 - 50miles a week. No snow or rain rides. Just want the most efficient tires out there.

If anybody has other upgrade tips for the Trek FX Hybrids then shoot. I'm all ears.

Unless Trek has widened the rims on this line of bikes recently, you can go down to at least 700x23.

sheldonbrown.com has an article on min/max tire width for different rim widths. But I gurantee you can go to 28mm with no problem.

Other upgrades? Brooks saddle.

I put some 28c armadillo's on my 7500fx.. work fine. no flats.... but, then again i only had them on there for about 150 miles. they are for sale... (shameless plug, i know)

I use 25mm slick tires on my 7500FX with no problems. I've run Armadillos in this size as well as several other brands. Right now I use Continental GP4000 tires on it.

If you want efficient, you want no tread with high pressure. The tradeoff is for a given pressure, wider tires have less rolling resistance, but narrower tires are lighter.

Like others said, 700x28 or even narrower will be fine.

If you want a tire that's tough and puncture resistant, go with a Specialized Armadillo or a Continental Ultra Gatorskin. I've used both in 700x28 on my commuter - the Armadillos seemed a bit tougher, but the Contis seemed to roll better.

If you're interested in a bit narrower, I've had good luck with 700x25 Michelin Carbons.

You can put any 700 tire on those that you want. Road race riders use 23c & 25c mostly. I have Bontrager Select rims on my Airborne that were 26c tires. Take your bike to bike shop and see if you can test rims that are on the floor in the various tire sizes. Bontrager dealers off a demo program that lets you test their wheels on your bike. However their list of dealers seems not to be up to date.

If they won't let you try other wheels, demo ride a few other bikes with other sized tires. 7.7 has a 28c.

Thats a nice bike you have, I looked at Treks but got a better bike for way less at the time when I was looking at the 7700fx. Still very nice bikes.

The 700x32 Botranger tires on your bike are actually really good tires. Wear them out first. Anything smaller will give you alot more road vibration.
