Possible to ride smaller frame?

Apologies in advance for the noobish question...

I recently got a sweet lugged Peugeot fixie, but it is 55cm, and at 6'1 I typically ride something around 60cm. Taking it out for a few rides I definitely felt uncomfortable - noticable soreness in the hands in particular. Before I decide to sell it for sure, is there any way to make up the difference - say with the longer Nitto stem and bullhorns?

I took it to a mech and they said it was pretty much hopeless, just thought I would post here to doublecheck. Thanks.

You already know the answer.

Is this your only bike?

There's no substitute for fit but, if it was my bike, I'd try the stem and handlebar transplant. Even if it doesn't work you'll learn something in the process so you can't lose.

layback seatpin and longer (Wobblier) stem?

a longer stem will be the opposite of "wobblier".

What happened to the 60cm bike?

Appreciate the responses. Taking it for another ride, I am sure I have to sell it. Even with a longer stem and layback I don't think it would work.

I haven't been riding for three years, long story, and my 60 was sold back then.

I ride a 55 and tried once to squeeze into a 52 and just couldn't do it. I felt like I was riding a circus bike for a chimpanzee.

I have a variety of frame sizes, but they all have the same saddle settings (ie height from pedals and fore-aft) and the same handle bar distance, by picking the correct stem. So I don't know if al the frame size arguments are fully justified. One frame is smallish so I have toe overlap, another is a large but is fitted exactly the same and has lots of toe room.

I am the same height and I know that the 58 is too short ... but I got used to it
