looking for reliable rack trunk bag
2 years ago, I bought a Performance Epic rack trunk with 3 pockets with large 717 cubic capacity. About a year ago, the stiff foam lined walls began collapsing. I am real dissapointed with it and thought the bag should have kept its stiff rectangular shape a lot longer.
I am looking for recommendations for a good solid bag with similar capacity for under $30 when on sale.

It's a Cannondale insulated rack trunk that I use for Trail Watch duty. It's got an insulated liner that holds its shape well and I don't think it will break down over time. It attaches easily and is very stable on the bike. The only gripe I have with it is that stuff rattles around in it when I ride, so I have an old tee-shirt in it to quiet things down. It's on sale at Performance for just over $30. More than you want to spend, but I am very happy with mine. Good luck!

What were you doing to the bag? I've had mine for 18 months and no problems yet.
How are you fastening it to the rack? How full are you stuffing it? Where do you store it when not on the bike? Has it be around solvents?
If I was doing over, I wouldn't get it. Not because it was bad, but because I now want a seat bag system instead of a rack bag system.
A couple of times I really stuffed it, but didn't like the deformation of the bag. So I started putting fleece on the top instead of inside. Think about it, it's basically just material covered foam blocks. What is deforming those block? Probably either too much pressure from the inside, or too much pressure from the outside. Only other possibility I can think of is foam degradation. That may be caused by solvents or UV.

You are right that it is only foam. I guess I was asking here, if there are trunks with much stiffer material to keep the shape long.

You are right that it is only thin foam blocks. I guess I was asking here, if there are trunks with much stiffer material to keep the shape long.
