Shaving Legs for the first time!

I've been a cyclist now for several years, and I think it's time to take the plunge and shave the legs. Out of curiousity, how far up do you shave ? Or do you just basically go bald from the neck down?! And is there a right/wrong way to do it? Thanks for the assistance!

From the top of the head to the tip of the toes.

Go against the direction your hair is growing and afterwards lather yourself up with a mixture of rubbing alcohol.

Seriously, I don't shave anything but my head. It is hard enough to keep up with my head shaving. Sorry, no help.

I shaved once in the fall to see if it would improve my confort ...... guess what? IT DID NOT!

The hair mass over your skin acts as an insulator to friction ... go figure but that is my experience.

GO HAIR!!

Based on empirical studies, for every four square inches of leg hair removed, you will increase your speed .002 %. It's a fact.

Now that I didn't know! I really thought that shaving your legs was just in case you crash. Thanks for the info!

Well, swimmers do it, and apparently makes them about .005 % faster, so I guess it would work for.. anything.

I shaved my legs a few times for no reason what so ever. itchy as hell after the first time it is.

I'm already preparing myself for "the itch"! I thought maybe the faster thing was perhaps erroneous. But maybe it will help. I'll just have to try it.

I don't shave, but if you do it I think you should go all the way from the top of the head to toes.

I don't race but I shave. I admit, I think it makes me look SEXY! I love the feel but my wife is not a fan. I only shave to my shorts. Then I do a secret baboon style clipping of the inner groin (oh yeah, you know the spots I am talking about) hair to reduce pulling, rubbing, etc. You want to just clip this stuff short, not shave it or you will have serious itching issues. I have found the baboon clip to increase inner butt comfort dramatically. I personally believe that shaving of the legs was a natural evolution of the baboon clip.

Screw the shaving.
Wax it, brutha.
You'll have some intense pain at first, but you can avoid the itchiness.

I use clippers to ensure that every hair on my big-foot-esque body is of equal length.

Enjoy

I only shave my face and that's because I can't stand having a beard.
I'd rather burn my nose hairs off with a match than shave my legs, but if you want to do, just do it.

Thanks, Jack aka: makeitso

I started shaving - face grooming - with a straight razor. I do not think I will shave my privates again ... unless I am looking for a position on the Vienna Boys Choir.

When someone says razor sharp it does not mean "box cutter sharp"; it really means the sharpest thing in the planet. I can hold a hair from my head between my thumb and index and cut it in half with on stroke!

Why Should I Shave My Legs?

Question: All the hardcore riders around here shave their legs. I'm as dedicated to the sport as anyone, but I can't figure out why they do that. Does shaving make you faster? -- Walter P.

Coach Fred Matheny Replies: Racers and other serious cyclists shave their legs for several good reasons and at least one wrong one. First, the good reasons:

---Shaved legs makes it easier to clean road rash and other abrasions from falls. Not having hair also makes it easier to bandage these wounds.

---Leg massage won't pull your hair. Lubricants won't make a gummy mess.

---Your legs stay cleaner and maybe even a little cooler without hair to collect road grime and sweat.

---Leg warmers stay up better. The gripper band at the top sticks to bare skin but slides down on hairy legs.

---Those nice legs you're building look more muscular.
