Advice for Bursitis (shoulder)
I get a dull pain in my shoulder on long rides. My ortho-Dr. gave me anti-imflammatories which didn't really make much difference. I have good ROM but I could not throw a ball without pain. Its been bugging me for over a year. One option is a cortisone shot but I'd rather put that off for a while. Anyone have any suggestions?

You don't say what kind of bars or bike your ride. If a
MTB or Road bike both are terrible for you as they cause
you to lean on your hands to much. Consider different
bars like North Roads type to get you up OFF your hands.

I too have bursitis in both shoulders, the right more painful than the left. In addition to asprin (which works for me as well as anything else), I found two other useful things. 1. Check handlebar width. If your bars are wider than your shoulder, your shoulders will suffer. The bursa sac is under less stress with arms in straight lines, given the same downward pressure of your body weight. 2. Don't sleep with your arms above your head. This, too can increase the pain. Good luck. I hope you find a solution that works for you.

Have you done any kind of physical therapy? How long did you try the NSAID's for?
A good physical therapist (ask your doc to refer you to one who works with athletes) might be able to help with exercises and adjustments to the bike/your position that could reduce your pain.
