Carbon Water bottle Cages
I'm considering buying a couple of carbon water bottle cages. They really vary in price and the price doesn't seem to necessarily be tied to weight. Why are some more expensive? Design?

I've been seeing these a lot lately and I really fail to understand them. They don't weigh much more than the steel ones and I've been transfering the same pair of steel cages between bikes for 6 years and through any number of truely spectacular wrecks.
I suppose if you race you're after every gram you can find but for distance riding I can't see the point.

I had a chance to get two carbon cages at cost . . they match my bike perfectly. I happened to have fallen into a little cash as splurged. Saved about 3 oz.

I guess I don't get it. 3 ounces? To me, it's like taking a tablespoon of water out of a bathtub. The variation in air pressure ten feet horizontally is more significant.
But, I guess you have to control what you can. Don't forget to clip those nose hairs.

Look for the carbon cages that are hollowed out and filled with hydrogen gas. They are better because they are lighter. You have to be careful in an accident though- if they crack during an accident, an accidental spark could cause a small explosion.

got some specialized cages been using these for years and are lighter than the carbon ones my brother bought

all about the look and maybe if you are a weight weenie. I had a pair on one of my bikes for a little while...they didn't hold bottles very well so I moved them to the wife's bike (which doesn't see the same speeds or roads) and got Trek Bat Cages for mine. A bit heavier...still look good and DO NOT drop water bottles...great cage.
