DIY Halogen Headlights
I've been working on mine, and found it really frustrating trying to source parts. Here is where I got my stuff:
Home Depot for the PVC and silicone to hold the bulb in Batteryspace.com for the battery and charger RadioShack for the switches The one thing I had a super hard time finding was ceramic sockets for the MR11, I could only find MR16 sockets, I finally found some that do both, and ordered a bunch of them so they ended up cheaper. I have 4 on eBay right now if anyone is interested. http://cgi.ebay.com/Combination-MR11...QQcmdZViewItem I'll post pics of my setup as soon as I finish putting it all together. I'm using clamps to hold the lights on so I can remove them any time, which is great, because I only need them for night riding, no point in having them on the bike when in full sunlight! |
I would love to see pics when you are done. Also alot of people think you cannot paint PVC which is NOT true. I dont know if you have painted it or not, but I sand all the shiny coat off then primer it and spray paint it. It looks good!

You may want to post in the commuting forum. Every now and then ;) they talk about this there. Look for the "total geekiness" thread.

I've thought about painting them, but for now I won't since this set is going to be removeable. If I do a set that is more permanently mounted, then I would probably paint them.

Wow, this thing is super bright! I'm using a 10ah battery in a small backpack right now, I decided to not order the 3ah battery yet. So far I just have the MR11 working, my cat knocked the MR16 off my desk and it won't light anymore. I'll get that later. Just the 20w MR11 is rediculously bright, I can't wait to get the 20w MR16 on there too!
