I spent $155 on sunglasses and feel like an idiot

I impulsivley bought some polarized oakley monster dogs yesterday and feel like a total dork. Are oakleys really worth the high cost?

If you can afford them, and like them, then you did well.

I would never spend more than $20 for sunglasses, but that's me.

Are they prescription shades? I'd spend that much and more for good prescription shades, but no way for regular sunglasses. But if you like them, don't stress...take care of them and just go out and ride your bike!

Nope. For some reason, even though they're both over priced, I always seem to get more for my money with rudy project.

You did fine. You'll likely never find better clarity and comfort for less.

I have 2 pairs of oakleys. I love them.

I like my oakleys. Paid 100 for them 5 years ago, still have them and they still look perfect. I've worn them for everything from snowboarding to boating to biking. They don't fog up, they don't hurt my ears (which are very sensitive), and they don't give me headaches like cheap glasses do.

If you like them, don't worry about it. If you don't like them, take them back.

I paid $220 for prescription safety sunglasses once and ended up running over them at work with the riding mower, eh. Now I save prescription sunglasses for driving and baseball games and wear cheap safety glasses at work. For riding I got a pair of glasses at performance for $30. If I had the money to spend on good prescrption sunglasses, I would, but the cheap stuff works ok for me. It's your money, your eyes, spend how you like and most of all, enjoy!

I just spent $289 for prescription specs and $130 for some prescription shades, just a few days ago. (Over $400!). So don't sweat it.

I like my Oakleys. They are high quality and if you have the money and it makes you happy, why not.

I never understood the expensive sunglasses attraction. I understand they're better than the $15 shades I bought at JcPennies, but 10 x better?

Then again, I grew up in Washington. I'm not exactly sure what sunglasses are for to begin with.

Buying a quality pair of sunglasses is more important than many think. Cheap dollar sunglasses and the like can actually damage your eyes rather than protect them, this is because many only have tinting and no actual UV protection. Your eyes dilate because it thinks it is darker than it is, and since the sunglasses have no UV protection, you let in even more UV rays than not wearing sunglasses at all!

So, think of them as an investment.

Especially if you live in arizona... Where the UV index is usually a 9 out of 10 daily.

I bought some yellow shades at home depot for $12 Canadian. They also double as safety glasses and have uv protection.

I will need rx sunglasses, myself. Regular sunglasses I can see well enough to drive, but not well enough to ride. Officially I can do neither without rx.

Need to get a new rx first, though. =) So, rx first, replace lenses in my current frames and get rx sunglasses second. Can't wait.

As for the Oakleys, I agree with those above who have said if you like them and they make you happy, you did fine. Yes, it's a lot of money. No, it wouldn't be good for me to do the same thing because I cannot ride in regular sunglasses. But if you don't need glasses when riding, or you wear contacts, then what's the harm?

I once bought a pair of Oakleys at my business' optics place, went through this same question (Am I an idiot?) and promptly sold them on eBay for about $20 more than I paid. I only sold them because there was a limited range of times I could wear them, since I wear glasses and do not have contacts.

    That's my $0.04, anyhow.

I have a pair of Oakleys for normal wear and a pair of Tifosi Q3s for the road bike. One pair was $150 and one was $60. Both are nice with great lens clarity but the Oakleys are obviously better to me. Later.
