I was part of a group of cyclists who rode as the "Share the Road" contingent in the Inman Park parade yesterday. It moved so slow that I had to use the granny gear  and cog #2 in order to pedal and keep my speed slow enough so I wouldn't run into the group ahead of us.

Oh the shame of it. :o My first time using the granny gear -- and we were riding on a flat, fairly level road. http://users.pandora.be/eforum/emoti...ers/fing01.gif Don't tell anyone.

Nothing wrong with just taking a leisurely spin now and then. When I go biking with the wife it's either granny gears, or 30 rpm in a "normal" gear. I still enjoy it though.

Shame of it- putting an unused granny through all that pain. Suggestion- Go find some hills and put her to good use.

Did a ride this morning but up a few 15% offroad hills. Managed the first one in middle but I made certain I was in small ring for the second. 55 cadence in middle and still a long way to go hurt.

Okay, I'm impressed. 15 percent in the middle ring. I paid extra for a smaller chain ring and a more widely spaced cassette - for a couple of 14 percenters on my route. Now, I love my 9 speed, with it's overdrive, granny, and stump puller options.

Afterthought - who would want to "share the road" with a fleet of vehicles sedately taking the lane at ~ 5mph?
