One less bike...
Hello all, it's been a while sense I've been here, but I figured I'd come for some comfort from fellow riders. So this weekend was my birthday (22) and my neighbor (who also shares the same B-day) and I had a great party Sat. night. About 1/2 way through the evening, i realize my mtn. bike is no longer anywhere to be found in the house... yes it could have been worse I suppose, someone could have taken the road bike, but overall I am feeling rather depressed from what should have been a great weekend. I'm hoping to find out some drunk just road it home by accident, and will return it today sometime, but really I'm thinking it's time to go back in debt and find a new ride... Think I should bother with police, I was stupid and lost my serial number paper in my move up here awhile back and don't really have any info on it besides I'd know it if i saw it... ( I do have a reciept and will be calling Geico shortly)

Man, I'd be tracking down everyone who was at that party and asking if they saw anyone with the bike. Unreal....

Damn, that sucks. A guest stealing your bike really sucks. You might want to file a police report for the hell of it plus Geico might ask for one anyways. Hope you get your bike back.

The only thing that filing a police report will cost you is time. And if it was one of the party guests...well, that would be even more motivation for me to stick it to them.

Abandon all hope for the person who, after being invited to my party, totes off one of my bikes.
Time to open up a big ole can of whoop-ass.
Maybe some detective work amongst some of your guests can reveal the culprit.
Bummer. I hope you get your bike back.

Well, here is the hard part, both myself and my upstairs neighbor had a "whole house" party so, our guests were in both places, all my friends I trust wouldn't rob me, the other kids I met seemed nice enough, but we had about 130 people come through the house that night.... so it could have been a bum off the street for all I know. It's crazy there must have been about 50-60 bikes lined up outside and down the street (about 5 bikes for every car present!) and my mtn. bike, although nice was not the jewel that could have been had, as I had (in another room more out of sight) my Kestrel Talon 04 road bike.... Anyhow, I've just gotten off the phone with geico and now am calling the police to get this report started. The adjuster that spoke with me seemed extremely nice and will be taking into consideration my brake upgrade (xt-v's) and rear hub and will be speaking to me again once the police report is in. This is not what my monday needed...

A man's home is his castle. I'd be very careful about who I let into my castle in the future. Good luck with the claim.

There is a number N such that if you have a party of N people, one of those people will steal your stuff. If you want to be better think of it as tuition. It is possible that a person unrelated to your party saw the opportunity crashed the party and took it. As smaller possibility is someone got wasted (or other excuse) and rode off with the bike and will return it.

At some point in college I quit hosting parties, and resolved only to attend them. I was much happier after that.

This was our first real party sense moving in this past summer, next time I’ll be locking ALL things of value no matter the size in my room... truth, I probably won't throw a party this big till I get married.. and that's a ways off.
No Andrew, I stupidly didn't lock the bike up, it was inside the house, in a very common room, but looking back (hindsight is 20/20) it was too close to a door outside.
Strangely the police seemed pissed off they have to deal with me about this whole thing, and they really weren't too thrilled when I said they couldn't come over today when I’m not there, and they have to wait for tomorrow. I think they might need a reminder as to who really pays their salary.
Anyway, I guess this will toss me into that exciting, crazy, and relatively enjoyable experience of bike shopping again; I just really hate to think that I just JUST paid off my last credit card!!

Ah, sorry to hear that, hope you can make some progress with the police or insurance company. My birthday was two weeks ago and I had my iPod stolen on that very day, so I can sorta relate in a different way.

This sort of reminds me of something I saw a couple weeks ago. Our local paper interviewed some students about late night parties. One interviewed student said he would not change his lifestyle just for his neighbors despite the noise. Amazingly, the same student then complained about his neighbors knocking on his door at 8am to complain about his parties.
Anyhow, another plus of not having parties is that your neighbors won't hate you or think your clueless.
Hopefully your bike will turn up. Be sure to tell everyone you knew at the party about the missing bike.
