My first century

I did it!

Yesterday, I rode the Salt Lake Century...all 100 miles. (107 was actually the official count, but who's counting?)

What an amazing ride! It was also my first large organized ride, and it was so much fun...meeting the other cyclists, talking to them at rest stops...riding with all the carbon roadies with my fenders and trunk bag...what a blast!

By the by, THANK YOU to everyone who gave me good advice when I asked a while ago about how to get ready, and what was the necessary gear. Priceless stuff.

ummm, a little bit saddle sore, but not nearly as bad as I anticipated. Being a regular commuter I think toughened me up a bit.

I know lots of guys here have ridden century rides, and it's probably no big deal for them.

But prior to a little over a year ago, I only recreationally biked...ie. bikes were "toys" not transportation, and certainly not something to go for that kind of distance on. Then, thanks in large part to this forum, I started commuting. Shortly after that the commuter/road bike joined the "stable".

One year later, and I ride 100 miles.

I assume, by the way, you were asking about saddle soreness. Otherwise my answer would have to be "fantastic in a pair of jeans...the ladies love it!"

Congratulations. It's like breaking through a psychological barrier, isn't it, as you discover that you're capable of cycling feats you may have once doubted you could conquer.

Well done! I did my first century this past November and am now helping a group of riders train for their first (Team in Training).
