You can buy U-channel or "angle iron" (in your case you want angle aluminum
). Look in the phone book under metal suppliers, if you've got one nearby they'll deal in thousands of pounds of metal at a time, but if you go back to the warehouse they'll have a pile of "drops", pieces cut off to make other orders, they'll usually sell 'em to you really cheap. It's a great way to get metal (steel and aluminum anyway, that's probably all they'll have very much of in the drops pile).
If you don't have a metal supplier, check hardware stores. It'll be more expensive there, and the selection will be more limited, but it's worth checking.
By "more expensive" I mean a 20-foot piece might run you $15 at a metal supplier, whereas a 4-foot piece might run you $10 at Home Depot. Neither one is super expensive.
