I wanted to do an overhaul...

I have today off and then a buncha days next week off because its me exam week. I was hoping I could get into my store to overhaul my Concorde but my boss decides that hes gonna have an "unexpected illness" as he calls it. I go today in the freezing cold to the bike store and I get to the door and theres a dumb sign out there. "The bike shop will be closed for an unknown period of time due to an unexpected illness". I was so pissed because now I can't get my overhaul done and I will have to do it during the my weekend. It also sucks that I can't go in now and pick up some parts for my bike that I wanted to get because the door is locked.

Oh well, I just wanted to vent.

Not only that, but you can't go in just to browse during your extended time off!

Sometimes when I have some extra money burning in my wallet (not often) upon walking into the LBS the first words out of my mouth are "Sandy, what cha got to sell to me? ...I need to buy something!!!" I always enjoy the look on his face!

I feel for you WorldIRC

Hehe. I work at this store so my boss can't stand it when I go in there because I end up bugging him foor 7 hours about the latest bike parts that he should be selling but doesn't. It works though because he usually gets the stuff in for me but now he can't because he is on "extended leave".

My home work stand broke too (I'm at war with Park Tools right now) so I can't do it at home. Maybe I'll go our sister store (more of a direct friend / trading partner except they give me the same discount I get at my store) and work on my bike except its right at the other end of the city which is quite a hassle to get too. Theres also another LBS in the city that likes me but will charge me $50 to use the stand.

Closed due to him being ill...I'm surprised he doesn't have a contingency plan for times when he cannot make it to the shop, I.E. a second in command...one or more managers (sales or maintenance) to open up in his absence.

Well outta the three stores, were the smallest. We are the newest location so our clientel is still building up. We do not really require more staff at this time of the year. Its him and the chief mechanic right now but.. the chief mechanic is an idiot and can't run a store or order parts or anything. We aren't taking a large $$$ loss though. The other 2 stores are much much bigger and make plenty of money. One stores sells all the highend stuff and sells most of it. The other sells upper middle stuff and sells most. We sell mid quality stuff and sell most of it but not quickly. So there is no need for a large staff yet. In spring we will be calling a few people that I know to come in and work for us.

I could do that but also, its quite cold outside here (-15C) and don't wanna stand in my unheated garage while I do it and theres not enough room in my basement to do it.

Just for clarification.

By "unexpected illness" and "extended leave"...do you mean he's taking a vacation or is he really ill?

I think hes actually sick. He hates vacations, and he hates being home (don't ask) so if he's been gone for a month, hes sick.

I live in Toronto. I have about 50 bike stores within 30 minutes drive. I work at this one though so I get to use the stand and tools for free without being bugged. The only other shop I can make use of for free is at the other end of the city which I don't feel like going to. I know people at the closer stores but they won't let me use their stands as they need them for their own customers.
