Ideas For a Decent Helmet

I'm looking for ideas because I've been riding for years without a helmet and want to start wearing one again.
I've got one but it looked like a giant muffin plopped on my head when I used to wear it.
I see guys out on the road with nice looking helmets.....narrow and cool looking.....and have no idea what the ones I see for sale on line would look like on a person's head by the pictures they show.
Any ideas as to where I can get some idea of what a particular helmet would look like on my head?
The local bike shops don't have much of a selection and I'd rather buy on line anyway....better pricing.

I ride 1500 - 2000 miles a season, all on the road and feel lucky that with the few incidents I've had I haven't killed myself up to now. Sure would like to find a 'hat' I'd like to be seen under.

Don't know what to tell you other than look for pictures and hopefully get lucky. If you are looking at a racing helmet, look up some race reports online and check out the helmets on the guys/gals heads. That being said, I really have no idea what team rides with what helmet. You could probably check the road cycling forum for that info.

Yeah, I thought I'd get lucky and someone would know of a site I could check out for a better idea what a particular helmet would look like on a head.
I guess the search goes on.

I just went here:
https://www.nashbar.com/results.cfm?s...ice1&pagename=

.... and looked for the least expensive yellow helmet I could find with a minimum of about 18 vent holes.

I would be a bit wary of buying a helmet online. Might not fit your head very well..

Who cares what the helmet looks like? You should only worry about 3 things.
  1. Will it protect your head?
  2. Does it fit correctly?
  3. Is it comfortable?

Stop worrying about how you look. No one else cares. Protecting your brain is far more important than looking cool.

Just get a Bell Citi - inexpensive, functional and rated one of the best helmets by Consumer reports. If your worried about looks, don't worry, folks are still gonna be looking at that ugly mug of yours and won't even notice that you got a helmet on.

+1 I have a yellow one and like it a lot. I know Performance has the helmet in-store, but for some reason they don't have it on their website. Nashbar sells it as well.

I have a Louis Garneau and took the visor off when I switched to drop bars. It cost about $50 Cdn. Go to shops and try them on because even different mdels from the same maker fit different. More expensive ones usually have better ventilation. What matters is how it fits YOUR head.

LOL - you guys are alright......and correct about my ugly mug. I'm not really vain about the look, but just can't stand that turban look. The one I've got looks like a giant marsh-mellow on my already unattractive mellon.
That nashbar site looks to be the most reasonable site that I've seen when it comes to price. I'll have to look hard for a bike shop with a better selection than what I've found (and I'll check out the Bell Citi) and then check prices for the one I like, on line.
That Bell Delirium looks pretty cool too.

I've crash tested this one and I gotta say it did extremely well. So I bought another one.
