Buying Edge 305 for $250 instead of $350

Hey guys...

Im looking to buy the edge 305HR tomorrow and I went to cnet.com and shopping.com and found a few stores that sell them for $250 instead of $350. Anyone heard of these stores before?

http://www.compuplus.com/i-Garmin-Ed...ldxtqy6792hwfa

http://www.datavis.com/cgi-bin/ncomm...1675&site=CNET

Here's the link from shopping.com that has the stores that sell them:

http://www3.shopping.com/xPC-EDGE_Te..._Unit~S-P~OR-0

Im leaning towards the compuplus.com one.

Anyone think there's a reason not to?

Thanks for your advice. I really want to get this baby.

Yea I checked the reviews. Some people got what they ordered. Others got screwed.

I did some more research and found out that it's more then the coin the toss for being happy or not. I found out that the Garmin sets minimum price points of $349 for the product. If you buy it for less, then its not warranteed for repair.

I need the waruantee so I'll have to the pay the 349.

peace...

your best bet is to order from performance... using those sites as a price match.... at least performance is reputable....

I've used CompuPlus for some camera accessories. No complaints. Prompt delivery, great prices.

HOWEVER: it looks like you have to buy the heart rate monitor and cadence sensor seperately.

Yes, it was mine. The moderator thought that I was self-promoting so my post was deleted. I stand corrected.

Me_n_ET is incorrect as Caligurl points out. You do not have to pay full retail to get the warranty. BTW, Garmin's service and technical support is excellent.

One other thing which has recently popped up. Buying an Edge online or through eBay does not invalidate your Garmin warranty.

Have a terrific weekend everybody!

hmmmmm and it's interesting that the ONLY threads you post in... are edge posts....

interesting...

i stand by my original comment... buy from performance... price match... use a coupon... even it breaks 2 years from now... with performance's liberal return/replacement policy... you'll be able to get a new one or return the broken one!

and performance is authorized... and reputable (ya... they have their issues... but all in all.. they are reputable!)

I don't see what's so interesting about it, really. The information I try to provide is generally posted to contribute reliable information (and/or to correct misinformation from other posters - sometimes blatant misrepresentations). That's my goal anyway.

Of course! I loved the Edge so much I got involved in them after buying mine online!

They are great GPS computers!

Have a great day!

your goal is OBVIOUS.... you ONLY post to edge threads... you already got posts deleted for spamming... you're just more slick about it now....

again i say... buy from a known reputable and authorized company...

don't support spammers!

Caligurl, I am not spamming and my posts are heartfelt and honest. There are not that many people who have the experience with the Edge computers as we do. I am only trying to contribute reliable information so riders can make informed decisions based on fact. Comments that are simply untrue don't add to the quality of this forum.

I think of a "spammer" as someone who misrepresents their intentions or lies about their expertise in order to garner an unfair marketing advantage. Everything I say and post is honest and is based on my own personal experience. I use the Edge practically every day. How could I be spamming when I have reliable and honest information to provide to this forum?

I laughed because I am the most "unslick" person I know.

If someone chooses to buy from Performance, I don't mind. That's a free market society. When someone blatantly posts incorrect or dishonest information in order to skew a viewpoint or because they didn't do their due diligence, that's immoral, IMHO.

i use my edge 6 days a week (i always take a rest day... as most cyclists do).... i have over 3500 miles of riding this year.... so i think i have a little bit of experience with the edge, too... and funny thing... since i'm a cyclist... i also participate in other cycling related posts in this forum.... i don't only post to edge threads boasting about selling X amount of edge with a link to come buy from me....

there are also a ton of other riders that have bought and used the edge.... oh.. and they post and participate in other areas of the forum.. and aren't trying to sell anything!

and another funny thing... i'm a member at mtb review.. and it's the same thing over there.. you ONLY Post to EDGE threads...

At the very least I can say that my posts are accurate, truthful, and based on due diligence and experience. I never once suggested that you didn't have experience with the Edge. In fact, I implied that you were an expert.

You seem intent on making a personal attack on me and my integrity. I don't know why. It seems so negative and spiteful even though I've only extended you every courtesy.

I sincerely wish you the best in your riding experiences, Caligurl.

do you mean motionbased? you CAN pay for it... but you can also use it for free...

if you pay... you get to see all the files you upload and some analyzer... you also get priority uploads... but that pretty much has only come into play on the weekends.. and then it's only a matter of a few minutes before it's actually there for you to use! so you can upload... and get all your information.. and go back and access the file until you upload 10... then the 11th one "drops" off... as in you can't access it.... you can still see it listed... and the pertinent stuff... but you can't open it and use map player.. see the weather, etc...

so it's VERY useable without paying...

I subscribe to Motionbased and find it effective and interesting. But you don't have to subscribe, as Caligurl points out (even though I could hardly imagine not using it now). It costs $11 a month but they have a free subscription which limits the number of uploads visible in your digest and lets you try it out for awhile.

Garmin provides training software called Training Center (click here) with their GPS enhanced training computers (Edge and Forerunner). Updates are free.
