    My knee!

    Lately I have been getting a pain in my right knee while cycling. It happens in the downstroke and its a sharp pain, but not unbearable, coming from the middle to back of the knee. Other times it feels like I have an air pocket in the middle of my knee if you know what I meen. And other times it feels like I need to pop my knee really bad, which sometimes it does.
    Is this bad? I have been riding my single speed for a while and just started back on my road bike, could it be the single speed, the thing does have a big gear that I usually hammer on (56x16).

    Doctor.. or maybe a PT... you really only get 1 set of knees trust me dont let them go to waste. Im riding because I ignored my knees for to long and now I cant Long distance run anymore. Trust me if you are having knee pain and its persistant... Doctor.

    Mashing kills knees dead. If you spin more than mash you'll be fine on a fixie; I've had multiple injuries to my left knee and ride a 52x22.

    Go see a sports or orthopaedic doctor, then put a bigger cog on the thing. Your ratio does not describe your penis.

    hahahaaha. Yeah the only reason that I have that big of a gear is because it is kind of a frankenstien bike. The back cog is from a bmx bike and the front cog is from the original. I do need to change it though. Its a great gear to cruise in but starting off the line is HARD, and slow.

    It's no wonder you have pain or may have damaged your knee. Oh Brother.......

    At least have enough common sense to go to a doctor before you f*ck up your knees for good.

    In the meantime, it could not hurt to ice your knee(s) when you're finished with your ride and perhaps also at bedtime. I'm a big fan of the frozen dixie cup method, myself.

    Sounds like a problem I had that ended my running days. I tore the medial meniscus in my right knee. I had surgery to remove ~60% of the meniscus (not sure if spelling it right.) Anyway, its like a cushion in the knee that can actually flop over onto itself and creating a sharp pain. When it was removed I started running again but bruised the bones because that padding had been removed and that created a new pain. Cycling, however, is much easier on the knees and I haven't had any problems since I'm not saying that is what you have but the symptoms sound similar to mine.
