Picking a Specialized Sirrus Sport from the rest

Picking a Specialized Sirrus Sport from the rest
Looking to buy the Sirrus Sport what would be a good price?
My LBS has it at $760can do you think i can get a 10% discount or should i get a lifetime service for labor on the bike.
Do i need a bike pump or can i use the gas station pump? Different tire stem then cars?
My riding the Sirrus base model was not what i expected the front chain ring teeth are smaller and less then the Sport model and the shifters feel better. After riding the Sirrus found the Nexave front derailuer had a lot of black dust or should i say metal dust covered. I felt the Sport model with Deore front derailuer a bit more solid then the Nexave. Anyone have comments on the derailuers?
Most of my riding is on a 10 year old 35lb cromoly MTB with low end parts that were never serviced, works okay with low amount of riding.
My riding habits are mostly bike paths sidewalks, and local streets. Find the Hybrid is the best bike i should need. Hate the fact that when i ride on my MTB people seem to pass bye me quite easily.
Only problem is the Sirrus Sport wheels Alex DA16 will they be able to hold up to uneven payment such as speed bumps 2inch sidewalk curb ramps buckled sidewalks and asphalt.
Like the ride on the Sirrus Sport so much i want to buy a road bike Allez Elite but with a price tag of $1725 canadian it would be more like 2 grand with taxes and shoes pedals. For the type of riding i will do is it worth it? Plus will i be able to relax if i lock my bike outside if i go to a store or pool.
Looked at the Trek FX7.3 and Devinci hybrids. Find there derailuers are worse off then Sirrus base model but price looks better. Want to get a bike thats solid lasts long time without to much servising. If i can get a good deal does it matter which derailuers the bikes have is it all the same?
Whats makes me happy is what i did when i bought my MTB compared all other base models of that year Giant, Raleigh. All had about 100 to $150 more what i paid for a same type of bike with low end Shimano and Dotek parts last me a long time. I still feel brand names sometimes is what you are paying higher premium for not the quality of the item itself. Now i got no choice the company i can only pick from are Giant, Trek, Devinci, and my pick Specialized Sirrus Sport.

I'm not fully awake yet so I'm not going to answer everything you asked.
-All bikes need regular servicing no matter the price tag. Clean your bike often and lube your chain. Wheels will need to be trued and after everything else will need a tuneup after a month or two.
-The Alex DA16's are not bombproof but of course they will handle speedbumps, but you shouldn't be riding on the sidewalk. Sidewalks were meant for walking not riding at 10-20mph.
-If you want a roadbike in your price range you can still find one. $1725 is not a budget road bike.
-In the end the price of components in not necessarily how long they will work for but how well they actually work. Higher end derailleurs will shift smoother than low end.
-The only way you will get a percentage off the bike from an lbs is if it is last years model and they have new ones coming to replace it. The level of free service varies from store to store. You are very likely to receive 10% off any accessories you purchase with the bike though.

Definitely get a bike pump- along with a spare tube- patch kit and levers. If no discount- Get the shop to throw it in as goodwill- along with a bag to hold it in.
Nexave is not one of the better group sets- Deore is better but Price will come into this
Wheels will stand up to the punishment of normal riding but no stunting or jumping.
Get a GOOD lock, Look at Kryptonite or high end ones. Cheap locks don't work.
Sirrus is a good bike and it will not disapoint you

as far as the lifetime service goes.....not going to happen,thats alot of lost money and manhours for a shop when it comes to tune-ups and overhaul, and its rather unreasonable to ask.
HOWEVER you should able to get 6 months of free adjustments and maybe even a tuneup at the end of the six months.
You can ask about a discount on the bike but don't be overly pushy. With Specialized bikes, the cost should match with the the company's requested MSRP as per specialized's policy. They might, give a small one but don't think to hard on it.
Instead ask for a discount on helts, pumps and other accessories if you buy them at the same time as the bike. Most shops can offer some sort of plan to encourage you to get out the door with as much stuff as you could possibly need, and don't mind taking a small profit hit to make a happy returning customer

I just bought the Sirrus Sport for USD $650, and I asked for better tires - and got them free. It was much better than the 7.3fx. the Sirrus was lighter and more responsive, without being punishing. While the fx has a deore derailleur that is great, the Deore/Tiagra combo on the Sirrus Sport is very good. I have a mini-pump for emergencies, but I think having the presta adaptor is much mroe important for a city commuter who passes a few gas statsions on his route. I don't think the big pump is necessary. At this price point, the Sirrus Sport is better than the 7.5 fx (yes, 7.5). so I think you can still feel you got a deal.
