    St. Louis Sucks Right Now!

So I havent had power for almost a week now. My neighborhood looks like downtown Beirut after a bombing, and there is so much debris on the road it is a pain to cycle. The power company said , "your neighborhood is the worst we have EVER seen!"

If we have power before tuesday, Ill be amazed.

ANyway, I finally made it to a Bread Co with interweb, so I posted... please note I now have a red star yeah!

Thanks for letting me rant for a second.

    happy trails,
    a.

Hang in there! I work at Washington University, and we are putting up some 300 out-of-state UE workers who are doing 16-hour shifts trying to get things going again.

We've moved a couple of our police officers and their families into dorm rooms till they get power back on.

What does no power have to do with cleaning the streets? It seems to be you Municipal Authority is falling down on the job. Probably something silly like the workers can't punch in so they can't work.

The problem with the St. Louis area in general is whichmunicipal area. I found the St. Louis metro street department hard at work yesterday, moving down major roads with massive tree-chippers to chop up all the debris.
But in the "greater St. Louis area", we have 99 municipalities of varying size, who may have their own street department, contract with St. Louis county for same, or use private contractors.

This particular storm came up suddenly, virtually out of nowhere, and downed thousands of trees, signs, etc, which in turn knocked out power lines and transformers all over. Then we got another blast Friday, with another round of locally-damaging winds. Fun stuff, and it was during some of the hottest days of the year.

I am in South City and we just got power late Sunday afternoon - but they still have 250,000 + without power and are now saying thursday for some. Biking at night is treacherous because of all the limbs and debris on the roads - a good light is the only way to go.

There is no such thing as "Peak Oil" either. The earth will never run out of oil.

This is the way our cities will look all the time after "Peak Oil" & "Global Warming" so just continue
    to live as your are.
