    TV show about natural resources

There's going to be a program on PBS tonight (June 19) that details some findings on how natural resources are being outstripped by over-usage--examples given in the news story I read include world population doubled since 1940 but water usage quadrupled; 70% of major marine fisheries depleted....

The program is hosted by Bill Moyers. I imagine it will be thought-provoking.

Thanks for the heads up, Jon. Unlike the rest of modern America, I do not have cable, so I find myself watching a lot of PBS. I will be sure to check the show out.

    Jon,

I watched the show last night...very informative. Like the Kansas farmer was sayingabout his state, there are also plenty of areas in Iowa where one cannot drink the tap water due to high levels of farm chemicals. Here in Iowa City we have been told that the sick, elderly or infant should not drink the water...and the healthy should? Everyone in this town buys bottled water or has an in-home filter. It is too bad that people are not more aware of their actions and how they affect everyone, not just in their own backyard.

I read somewhere that there are more deer now than when the Pilgrims landed. They also say that there are more trees because we don't use them like the settlers did. But I don't remember where I read that so it isn't really credible.

We cannot rely on the staus quo to bring us successfully into the future. Just like our forefathers, we must continue to develop new solutions to every serious problem that faces us.
