Portland Bridge Pedal '06 (pics)
I thought I'd share a few of my pictures from this year's Portland Bridge Pedal.
Every year they block off lanes on every bridge across the Willamette River in
Portland on a Sunday morning for a benefit ride. About 10,000 riders participate
riding 6, 8, or all 10 bridges on routes up to 36 miles.
The starting line about 10 minutes after the first round headed out at 6:30. It was
extremely slow going until the crowd thinned out.
It finally clears out enough that we can pick up the pace. Check out the downhiller
to the right on a Cannondale complete with full face helmet.
Rolling up to the top of the Fremont bridge, arguably the coolest pons in Portland.
My group at the end of the ride (actually, someone directing traffic screwed up and
sent a big group the wrong way, bypassing two of the bridges. We went back and hit
them up after this picture).
After getting back to my house and having breakfast, I wandered out along the
route and found cyclists still passing in droves.
A panorama I took of downtown Portland from the top of the Fremont Bridge.
The above links to a (shaky) video of the festivite welcome at the top of the
Freemont Bridge. (13 Mb .avi).
