My catalog adventure...

Servus!

I did the "click all of the following that you would like to receive information from" on the BIKE website. I figured that you might like to hear about my ongoing adventure with this topic, so here goes. BTW - if you find this annoying, tell me so I stop posting.

First clicked on 8 June 2001

26 June 2001- Got a really fantastic cataloge from Cane Creek (custom wheels, suspension elements, headsets) and a bonus Kore catalog. Also got the European Sales Rep's card. No stickers.

Trico Sports (saddles) also came on this day. Nice catalog, no stickers.

27 June 2001 - Got a letter in the mail from White Industries asking me to send a check or money order for $10 for the catalog of my choice. No stickers. White can pound sand for that... :irritated

We'll see what surprises the mailbox holds for me today! More info as soon as I get it.

Thanks for the info, Ranger. I'm not annoyed at all.

P. S. Why couldn't they have just emailed you to ask for $10, and saved themselves the approx. $3 overall cost of a business letter?!

Sadly, there is no real update aside from finding a deceased spider in the mailbox yesterday.

More as it comes...

Servus!

Update for Friday 29 June - Today, I received catalogs from both Gary Fisher and Klein.

Gary Fisher: slick full color catalog full of propaganda and talks with the Godfather of modern mountain biking himself. Full size, full cool. Lots of descriptions of their technology and techniques. I would buy from them just from the catalog alone (which cost them a mint to send to me). No stickers...

Klein: Now I got a legal-sized envelope but it was filled mostly with air. No catalog - but a CD-ROM! I thought that was supremely cool - saves a tree in the process! Haven't really had time to look at the CD, maybe later. No stickers...

Saaturday, June 30. My little Turkish mailman said "nichts dabei" meaning nothing for me today. So, we'll see what the mail holds for me on Monday afternoon!

Servus!

Monday was a bust, which was no big deal because I wasn't home all day, I was out swinging hammer until the wee hours so on to today!

Allrighty, let's see what Uncle Ranger got in the mail today....

3 July 2001:

Smith "Optics" (why in the hell can't they just say "glasses"?)- a smallish full-color catalog shjowing their entire product line. Nothing too impressive, par for the course. No stickers...

Ellsworth - Seriously cool bikes for anyone! Road, Trail, FS Tandem, way cool. Only a few pages, though. Full size, full-color. No stickers...

Salsa- Sweet catalog with great pictures and full descriptions. Definitely want to buy some of their toys. Finally got some stickers!!!! Three, various logos and full color. Best of all is the traditional "riding chili" logo with the statement, "If it ain't moto, it's worthless"

Maxxis tires (or "tyres" for those of you who speak the Queen's English) I got a book from these people! No kidding, it's about thirty pages long with a picture and desription of every tire they make, plus a "best used for..." guide. Of course, a class-act like Maxxis is gonna send stickers! Two full color logos (perfect for your chainstays or seat-tube and two die-cut "maxxis" in black. Damn, so many goodies makes me want to go out and buy their product just for hooking me up with the goods!

That's all for today, on to Wednesday...

Servus!

Nothing to report for Wednesday (aside from the fact that I forgot that it was independance day... )

Thursday, 05 June 2001:

Magura: I had been waiting on this one and was pretty disappointed when it got here. I got the full color, half size brochure that I can get from my LBS the only difference being was this one was in English. The German version is better because the English version is translated from it. Literally, in some spots, so it makes for a painful read. Worst of all, I got no stickers! Magura ALWAYS sends stickers, but not in my envelope!

It's all good, their product still kicks serious a$$ and that makes me happy.

Nothing for Friday, alas the mailman came and went leaving me only junk mail from a cell phone provider and a reminder from the insurance company.

More as it comes...

Hi Ranger,

I really rate Salsa products (I still have my Pro Moto Quill Stem which kicks a$$), and was lucky enough to meet Ross Shafer (the creator) at a local Bike Expo a few years back. He was kind enough to direct me to some homemade salsa and nachos...hehe, boy were they hot!

Cheers for the update...how many more catalogs are you expecting now?

Rich

One of these days ranger your gonna get a whole chunk of stuff in the mail. I did the BIKE thing also. I was very dissapointed in the amount of stickes I got. I got the Salsa stickers, which I really like, I got the Cane Creek stickers(but nothing from kore) I dig the Cane Creek wheels, I got some Answer stickers, I am not a big Answer fan,I got some Maxxis stickers, I too wanted to go out and buy some maxxis tires, I got some Hutchinson stickers, and then I REALLY wanted to go spend money,I was dissapointed buy Fisher, seeing as how I have one of his bikes I wanted a sticker, Magura didn't send any stickers which made me mad, I wanted some Maguar stickers,I didn't get the disc from Klein, I'll have to send for info again,I got a Titec sticker. The two stickers I really, really wanted were Race Face and Lizard Skins. Both dissapointed as I disn't recieve even a brochure from them. I also expected something from Rock Shox, but nothing there either. Over all it was dissapointing, some needs a program that will get lots and lots of stickers. Joe, hint hint hint.

Servus!

Allrighty, the latest batch of stuff:

July 16, 2001

ParkTool- Sent me a full color brochure that shows all of their available tools for 2001. The pages stick together now because I was drooling so heavily. Maybe if I hit the Lotto....
No Stickers.

Surly Bikes- I got six pages folded in half and stapled together. The pages look like they were copied from the real catalog and sent to me, but who cares! The frames and parts simply ROCK and this is where I will probably buy my SS frame. Best of all, got a big 'ol Surly sticker, useful for suturing wounds and covering up unsightly road rash scars.

More as it comes....

Servus!

And the excitement continues....

17 Jul 2001:

Manitou- Got the 2001 catalog from Manitou in the mail (which prompted RangerGirl to ask about all this mail I'm getting) which was 3.5" x 11" mailed in a legal-size envelope. Strangely enough, there was no mention of the new BLACK series that the recently released. Oh well, no loss as I ride Rock Shox. Two Manitou stickers fell from the catalog, one looked like it was orginally intended for a fork, the other is the famous "M" logo. I'm running out of space to put all of these stickers on my tool box!

On to tomorrow!

Hi there, though I'd try to help you guys out. Months before one of you guys proposed to go on a quest to get as many stickers/catalogues as you can from bike stuff manufacturers, I was already in a hunt to do the same. Unfortunately, since I live here in the Philippines, I get responses from only 25% of the companies that I send requests to. So far I have received stickers from Shimano, Hutchinson, and Campagnolo. The Shimano and Campy stickers are pretty SWEET. Shimano gave me a bunch, but most of them were MTB related stickers. I received a brochure from Giro, Excel Sports, Park Tool, and Colorado Cyclist too. I tried getting a Mavic sticker (this is the one I REALLY want), but I could not find an address to write to. I already mailed Cinelli, but I think they replied about having no more stickers/patches/brochures, so they just gave me some info over e-mail. Ok, that's all I've gotten so far. The best stickers I got were the ones from Shimano and Campagnolo. I put the Campy sticker on my car...even if I do not own any Campy componenet. Hehe, I guess it just helps distinguish me as a roadie. As for the Shimano sticker, I will probably put it on my other car (the one I always use), but it is definitely not as attractive as the Campy sticker.

Happy hunting dudes!

Altwegg,
Did you write to the companies? Or did you use the Bikmag.com Reader Link?
I didn't get any Shimano stickers, or any Campy. Darn-it, I'm gonna have to try agian, and see if I get any different stickers than last time.

I used to have some Campy components--that's how my Gitane, stolen around 1971, was outfitted. Since it was stolen, it's still mine, so I would have a right to display Campy stickers--but not sure where I'd put them.... (Sniff) Wish I had that dear bike back. It sure was nice.

Dudes,

I remember writing directly to Campagnolo. Check out their website for their marketing or sales department e-mail addresses. As for Shimano, I think I also wrote to them and requested for stickers..but they also sent me a catalog.

One more story....I have a Minoura Magturbo trainer which broke (LOST RESISTANCE) after just several uses. I wrote Minoura for instructions on how to fix it. After the first set of instructions did not work, their sales department sent me a brand new resistance unit FOR FREE. Talk about customer service! Bravo, bravo!

I've jumped on the wagon. I went to BikeMag and told them to give it to me. I may need to get a new mail sorter to hold this stuff.

I'm not even into the stickers so much. I just want the info - I'm a junkie.
