USPS on new bikes?

Don't know if anyone caught this in cyclingnews
but in an interview with Lance:

CN: We've heard rumors that you are testing a new bike for possible use in the Tour de France... Care to confirm or deny this?
LA: I am almost always testing, or discussing, new stuff. Having said that, there will be a new rig in the Tour and maybe even in Ličge this year. You'll see.
Any quesses what TREK is coming out with?

Marty

Maybe a Litespeed with Trek stickers on it? Remember way back when...? Seriously thought, I doubt that's going to happen. I think he's pretty much tied to Trek now.

Yeah, the Litespeed vs. Trek argument is fairly easily solved by applying: If it ain't broke. . . don't fix it.

Is there something I'm missing? (Sorry, I'm just a bit ignorant.)

Rumour I heard was his bike for the mountain stages was actually built by Kestrel, and adorned with trek logos, I cannot get this confirmed anywhere
but if the used the new Talon SL tehnology, on the trek oclv frame mold
it would be one light bike.....

That's total B.S. You talk like you work at a shop that sells Kestrels.

J/k dude, glad to see you posting here!

How was today?

I love relaying that fact to customers wondering why they should get a Litespeed over a Trek. Many around here are blindly loyal to Trek and this seems to shake them to the core.

Wish I had a camera today. While walking to an appointment in Burlingame, I passed a USPS team vehicle with two bikes on the roof. Now, tomorrow is the first road stage of the Sea Otter Classic in Redwood City, just ten miles south of here (and for which I am course marshalling), and Dave Zabriskie and Damon Kluck are listed as respresenting USPS, so I wasn't surprised to see a team vehicle in the area (parked in front of the Post Office, fer heaven's sake!). However, what made me do a double take was that both the bikes on the rack were badged Litespeeds. I didn't cross the street to get a better look because of time, but it sure made me curious, and I kicked myself later. Well, tomorrow I'll have a chance to see what the guys are riding, and if they are Treks, then this will be a mystery.

I have this friend who ONLY believes in Trek. Doesn't matter if its road, mtb, touring, or DH. He believes Trek is the ONLY way to go because Lance Armstrong rode it. You tell him they may be riding Litespeeds and he's like, no way, they are gonna ride trek for sure! He's so dumb sometimes.

There's a lot of that around here, being in Trek's backyard. They must put something in the water. I can't come up with a better explanation.

Yea and I'm like, "dude, why would you buy a DH bike from them", they attempt to make road bikes and mountain bikes so he think's because LA is good on the Road Bike, their DH bikes MUST be good.

There's a lot of people that think all Treks are made in Wisconsin too. There's just a lot of ignorance and sheep-type behavior concerning that brand.
[Edit for comprehension]
We get a fair amount of calls at our shop from Trek owners asking if we can work on their bike: "I've got a Trek in need of repair. Can you fix it? You mean you guys can fix it?! It's a Trek, you know. Did I mention that it's a Trek?"
They seem to think that a bike made by Trek is somehow inherently different than any other. This is somewhat true for Gary Fisher as well. [/Edit]
Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to bash Trek owners. This is just an oddity I've only encountered with these two brands.

I do hear that some of the aluminium road bikes of Trek are being made by Merida. Anyone can back that up?

Anyway, what USPS ends up riding should be good, can't be too bad.

When someone finds a website with the new bike information, please send it to me as I wanna shut my friend up. And yes, my friend also belives the cheaper Treks are made in the US too. I'm like, just like everything else, they are in Taiwan.

My impression of the Trek's the USPS team rides are not the best in the peleton. They're like the slowest kid in an honors class.

I agree, they still only have Shimano on them. Imagine how much more potential is if they had Campy on those bikes.

Interesting speculation.
I do know that USPS masters team is riding
Serotta Ottrotts, could Ben have stolen USPS
away from Trek? I doubt it. Could Trek have bought
Serotta? no, don't think so.
Does Trek have a new model or two for Lance
and the boys? thats my guess.

USPS riding Litespeeds...is this a rumor, or was someone quoted in some magazine. I just wanna know the background the whole thing.

Right now it is only a rumor i guess. I am hearing this from other members on the forum. I guess we'll just have to wait and see I guess. I really want to know whats going to happen. HAH, if USPS switched to Huffy, then my friend would only believe in Huffy.

Lance used to ride a Litespeed painted up as a Trek, back in the day. Trek actually has a manufacturing alliance with Giant, not Merida. They're not a fan of Merida due to Merida's minority share of Specialized.
