Look at this shaft drive bike

When I was in Japan last week, I picked up an advertisement from a bike shop.

Check out this neat bike from Panasonic. It has a shaft drive. I also saw belt drives in Japan - no more dirty chains or chain lubrication.

Neat!

This could be good. Need time to process.

We're sure to see more articles comparing the benefits of chains, belts, and shafts. I know it has come up before.

Mike - here is another link for a shaft drive bike
https://www.chainless.com/

I have heard various versions of the shaft drive bike have been tried for years but haven't taken hold due to the chain drive bike's energy efficiency.

Hi Mike,

It sounds like a commuters dream, but I wonder what a mountainbike version would be like with all that water and mud and stuff?

Time will tell I guess...neat idea!
