valet parking for bikes!

I know I've posted a fair amount of posts in the last 24 hours ... I'll take a break soon.

I was watching Dutch television news just a few minutes ago. There's a problem with the government here and there are two negotiators who are trying to resolve the differences between the two main political parties. Both men went to see the Queen today to report to her; one came by bike.

I saw him riding his bike to the entrance of the Queen's mansion. He stops, gets off his bike just in front of the red carpet on the outside stairs leading up to her mansion. There was a guard/butler/whatever who took his bike off his hands ... bike valet parking. I'm not making this up.

BTW, it's not uncommon to see the very top gov't officials here riding the bus or riding their bikes to important functions.

It puts a smile on my face. DH

Here in the US, a politician would publicly ride a bus or bicycle for political reasons. It is good to hear that elsewhere, it is a little more commonplace.

Was he in lycra? What team gear was he wearing?

I can't imagine cycling in a suit.

I'm getting visions of George Dubya Bush on a bicycle. Do they make armored bikes? Maybe a recumbent with a kevlar fairing. I guess he'd have to learn paceline skills with the Secret Service!

During Earth Day celebrations in Balboa Park, the San Diego County Bicycle Coalition sponsors secure valet parking for bicycles.

If memory serves me right.
A few years ago while on their Summer break in Balmoral, the Queen and Prince Phillip were spotted riding cycles to a shop in the local village.

Odds on when they returned there was immediate valet service waiting for them.

Wonder if those bikes were ever ridden again or are they hanging on the Balmoral garage walls alongside the Lim`os
