Do you get that conflict?

I'm completely a BMX rider, I rarely even set foot on mountain bike. Still I do meet a lot of mountain bikers where I live and a lot of the time I find there is a conflict, they don't seem to like the fact we [me and my mates] ride small bikes! Am i just unlucky or do loads of you find conflict between BMX and mountain bikers?

i have no idea what their problem is. I don't sense any animosity between mountain bikers and bmx riders here.

I don't honestly know if there's any attitude like that around here...but I will say that in Green Bay, the adults who ride BMX bikes generally buy them because they're a more convenient size to ride on the sidewalks. I think most bikers share a certain 'attitude' toward sidewalk riders.

Or maybe it's just a city-vs-country type thing....MTBs are very rural, and BMX's are very urban, by reputation.

I have to admit, I am a little prejudice toward BMX riders, because around here, most of them are punks. But if I do see somebody "honest" looking on a BMX, I have no problem with that, as long as they're having fun.

my neighbors kid age 7, has a redline romp and when he comes over to play playstation, a lot of the time i'll be out riding his bike. i probably look really dumb an aging middle ager on a 'kids' bike but i get over it quick. even thinking about buying one.

I have a big problem with a certain BMXer, but he's my little brother, so a guess that doesn't really count. I'm in the opposite situation of you, everyone around, with a few exceptions, are BMXers. It seems I'm behind in the fad, because 3 years ago the whole neighborhood was on MTBs.

While I don't care what you ride, or how you ride it, or even if you don't ride @ all, I think that this conflict isn't an issue of BMX riders vs. Mountain Bike riders. It's really, IMHO, a generation gap - in other words, a clash of cultures.

I used to see this in Ontario. Bmx vs Skate (same parks) vs mtb vs Road. I don't know why, I have TONNES of respect for bmxers. I never owned one and just recently started playing on one (28 and playing on a BMX for the first time haha). However I have to say that 'typically' in north america the skaters/bmxers carry a lot of attitude and are punks which makes a lot of people upset. Around here it is very different but the culture for whistler is built for those punks so no one carries the prjudice around.
