best way to uglify?!

Hey all,

I'm sick n' tired of riding a crappy bike around town while my sweet Lemond Buenos Aires collects dust (since I've stopped touring). I wanna take my darling out! So I'm gonna get the best Krypto lock I can buy, and uglify my little baby. But, of course, I'd like to do things that are reversible (like, painting is no good). What suggestions do y'all have?

Get some black tape and start rapping parts of it up.. Make it look like it is held together with the tape.. umm.. Find a huffy sticker to put on it :)

Get a bunch of those non-glued decals they make for car windows. Stick 'em all over your bike. Someone not looking too closely will probably assume they're stickers. :) What fun is stealing a bike if you think you're going to have to spend hours with Goo-gone to remove all the mess?

I heard a good one...

Wrap the bike with saran wrap or wax paper, then go over that with black electrical tape.

That way, the tape doesn't even leave residue on the paint, and whenever you want to go back to normal you just unwind the tape.

You could probably use duct tape too, but it wont unwind as well as electrical tape.

take care,

Jester

won't the whole bike get sticky when i rains or gets hot?

i'd rather get a paint job and paint it brown or something... everyone thinks brown/dark purple bikes are super old...

Yes, thatīs the way to go. Wrap paper or something around the frame first to prevent the sticky part melds to the paint, specially if using duct tape. If using electicanīs tape I donīt think itīs necessary to protect the paint, but it sure wonīt hurt, just in case...

nbirnbaum: Don't ugly up the Lemond. Box it up and ship it to me :)

Seriously though, I wouldn't do anyhting to it - just ride it on days when you can either do the complete ride starting from the house or save it for special occasion rides.

SipperPhoto: Congrats! Which frameset did you end up getting? Also, what did it run you?

Thanks for the saran wrappish ideas, they sound great! Any suggestions for components?
