Installing Brooks Saddle on Bianchi Milano
I am upgrading the stock saddle on my Bianchi Milano with a sprung Brooks saddle.
Still contemplating which model, but most likely the Champion Flyer.
Meanwhile, while contemplating the various Brooks options, I had the following bright idea. I decided to temporarily transfer my very comfy 1977 vintage Brooks B17 Champion Narrow, from my road bike to my Milano.
Since the riding position is more upright on the Milano (than on the road bike), I thought this would give me a chance to see if this saddle is about right, and if not, a better idea about just how much wider would be just right for my Milano.
Since this is a single rail saddle, I had the impression I’d be able to just slap it right on. And it sure did look like that would work until I actually had both saddles off and tried it. But the spacing between the Brooks rails is slightly wider than the seat holder hardware on the Milano is designed to hold.
Which leads me up to my questions....
I am assuming that the geometry of the more recently made Brooks B17 and Champion flyer etc would have same rail geometry as my 1977 model. That assumption may or may not be correct. Anyone know?
There is no guarantee that my seatpost particular arrangement is just the same as that of others with Milanos, as LBS's may not have used the same seatposts/hardware. But some of you with Milanos may have run into a very similar situation. If so, maybe you have suggestions.
I don’t think I need the “seat sandwich” because I am under the impression that is needed with multi-rail saddles.
I will be checking in with my LBS right after the holiday to see if I can get saddle mounting hardware that is slightly wider.
Perhaps a variety of sizes of this hardware are commonly available, and this is no big deal. Just not something I’ve ever happened to run into before. Afterall, my road bike came stock with the Brooks, so I have never ever had any inclination to swap saddles in 30 years.
The Bianchi Milano stock saddle actually is a nice one, for what it is, just doesn't quite fit me perfectly. I love my well broken in Brooks.
Hope everyone is enjoying their Holiday!
