$30K in bikes stolen in Wilmington NC

Coming soon to ebay:

I have been to this shop several times when I have been in Wilmington, the owner is a real decent guy. I hope insurance at least covers some of his loss

From the Wilmington NC Starnews.

$30,500 in bikes stolen from dealer on Wrightsville Avenue

Burglars got away with more than $30,500 in bicycles from Two Wheeler Dealer last week, according to a Wilmington police report.

Thieves shattered a storefront window of the business at 4408 Wrightsville Ave. after store hours Thursday night and stole 11 road bikes, said store owner Jim Mincher.

Mincher arrived at work Friday morning to find these bicycles missing:

Kestrel Talon - blue, serial no.: 27262;

2006 Felt S22 - matte black, serial no.: 1503170008;

2006 Cannondale Caad8 - red, serial no.: R055601;

2007 Cannondale SystemSix 3 - carbon/silver, serial no.: R144553;

2006 Trek Madone 5.2 - burgundy, serial no.: WL3276979;

2007 Trek Madone 5.9 SL - Discovery Team blue, serial no.: WL3357297;

2005 Trek Equinox 9 - red, serial no.: WL3240233;

2005 Trek Madone 5.2 SL - Discovery Team blue pearl, serial no.: WL3195549;

2006 Trek Madone 5.9 SL - dark blue-black, serial no.: WL3368175;

2005 Trek Equinox 7 - silver, serial no.: WL3265383;

Quintana Roo Kilo - silver/black - no serial number listed.

Mincher opened Two Wheeler Dealer 32 years ago. He said this wasn't his first go-round with thieves but this heist was more costly than in years past because of the number and price of the bicycles taken.

"They literally threw some bikes aside to go for others," Mincher said

Anyone with information about the bicycles may contact Mincher at Two Wheeler Dealer at 799-6444 or the Wilmington Police Department at 343-3609.

Think he'll part them out? It would be too obvious to put them up on ebay or craigs....

The owner posted up in the Road Forum. Some people have no morals at all. Disgusting.

Judging by the article, the morons seemed to be after particular bikes - which makes me wonder if they already had some "buyers" lined up. I'm sure they did their homework beforehand and scouted everything out.

Nah. They just took the most expensive ones he had in the store. Only 11 bikes to carry, that averages to about $2770. each.

And not a one had a Campy group!

good point
just how much does a bike shop pay for a bike they sell for 2k?
the markup on bikes is probably pretty high

It is not.

Interesting that you and Crimson are more wound up about the retail value of the bikes v/s their wholesale than the violation of the theft.
You guys probably had a little party when you heard that one of your anti shop comrades had stuck it to "The LBS Man" How petty of you.

huh?
I was asking a question, how the hell do you know what I'm wound up about
and what is interesting, is this third testicle that I've been developing over the last few years

there's a difference in talking about something, and knowing what the hell you're talking about
... guess now I'm wound up

Any idea on the frame sizes? If all the frame sizes are the same I have a theory about the height of the thief.

Just a thought, but there was a motorcycle leather company around here that got in serious trouble for insurance fraud. They would stage a burglary every few years to get rid of older leathers, seems possible here. Now before some of you get your panties in a wad, I'm not saying that is what happened, but it does seem like he was having problems selling some of these older bikes. Hmmm...just a little food for thought.

That's my LBS! About a mile from my house. Great bike shop. Great bunch of people that work there. I actually stopped by the day after it happened while they were replacing the window. There's been a lot of break ins around that area. A friend that owns a diner near by was broken into as well. Who ever it was trashed his place. I think the two are unrelated, but you never know. Hope the cops find whoever stole the bikes.

So Eric... ahhh, nice bikes. Sorry, just messing with ya. If it's your LBS, see if you can find any info on my constant frame size theory.

Ha ha...no worries. I had a feeling someone would point the finger at me...jokeingly, of course. I might stop by the shop this evening, on the way home from work, I'll let you know.

Has anyone been cruising e-bay to see if any of these come up? I happen to be too busy to spend my time surfing e-bay for stolen property, but someone might find the time. (No, I'm not saying anything insulting about the person who does...)

eBay would be almost too obvious. If the theives are smart, they'll fence them elsewhere.
