The problem with the bicycle is it's supposed to replace the horse; everybody knows riding a bike takes no effort.
And my contraption fixes that, it takes alot of effort. But...I see it replacing the car which... takes a lot of effort to operate?
"Where did this guy learn physics?" I'm guessing Hollywood Upstairs Physics Academy?
Nice find slvoid.

Imagine a fixed gear version on downhills:
"The driver twists his torso, contracts the stomach and back muscles, and alternately extends the arms up and down as in a foot pedal motion, while coordinating with the legs "

He was all over the road. It looks like steering comes from differential force to one wheel or the other, so you are constantly battling to apply the same pressure with your left arm and leg as you do with your right just to keep it in a straight line.
This has to be one of the stupidest designs I've ever seen.

This guy is trying to solve a problem that bents already address! I agree, the guy doesn't know his physics. He states that it's stable because the center of gravity is below the axles, but the axles don't matter; what matters is the COG in relation to the track width. Likewise, the lateral COG is between the two main wheels, so the front wheel is almost useless. I hope he doesn't expect that front wheel to do the steering!
50 mph? Give me a break! With that frontal area, he'd be working hard to hit 20 mph.

Do you think the lady in that picture is wearing a wetsuit in case the hole thing roles down the beach and into the ocean?
Seriously though, I mean, how can we let people ride around on simple machines like bicycles? Seems like we can come up with something a little more complicated than that stoneage invention that seems to have outlasted every other harebrained design.
Oh, is that the sound of butting in I hear? Must be little Lisa Simpson! Springfields answer to a question NOBODY ASKED!
Seriously want to see this guy climb a hill on this thing. Seriously want to see the guy go down the other side of a big hill on this thing. Heck, I'd even like to see him try single track on this thing, oops, oh that is right, the wonder wheel doesn't do single track, my bad.

I'm going to wait for the motorized version.
The Embrio is powered by a hydrogen fuel cell, a technology that creates power by mixing hydrogen and oxygen, ideally resulting in water as the only exhaust. Carmakers are also developing this technology for automobiles, and General Motors (nyse: GM - news - people ) stands by its plan to sell hydrogen cars by 2010.
The Embrio also borrows several other advanced technologies from cars, like infrared night vision and an active suspension, which can vary its damping rates based on road conditions. Its riding position resembles that of a motorcycle, and it balances one or more passengers with a network of sensors and gyroscopes. To move the Embrio, you use an accelerator trigger on the left handlebar and a brake trigger on the right.
The vehicle is made of lightweight materials, like aluminum, magnesium and nylon. It weighs only 360 pounds.
Forbes Fact
Although Bombardier says the gyroscopes are enough to balance the Embrio, the vehicle is also kept longitudinally stable by a smaller wheel that operates like an airplane's landing gear. It touches the ground when the vehicle is stopped or just starting. Once the Embrio is in motion, the landing gear will retract when the vehicle reaches about 12 mph. During braking, the gear redeploys when the vehicle slows to 12 mph.

Sorry, Curtis. Looks interesting, but I don't think it fits my state's definition of a bicycle, so wouldn't be street legal.
Besides, I don't think it would tow a canoe.

I think one of the cousins of the Big Wheel kinetic sculpture promoter was working on that very idea.
