Kudos To Chicago's Uptown Bikes
Many of us on BF complain bitterly when we have a bad experience with a bicycle business/vendor. I think it's only right to give credit to a business that goes out of its way to help people out.
I wanted to purchase an old style Arkel utility basket pannier, but the folks at Arkel told me that they were sold out of that style bag and no more would be made -- they are currently producing a new style utility basket. They gave me the phone number of Uptown Bikes, a shop in Chicago that bought their last bunch of old style utility baskets.
I called Uptown Bikes. They told me that they are not set up to do mail order, but if I'd send them a money order, they could accommodate me, and accommodate they did.
A big thumbs up for the folks at Uptown Bikes in Chicago, they didn't have to go out of their way, but they did.
Thanks!

Uptown Bikes in Chicago is a great little shop. They specialize in products for utility and commuter cycling. I have found they carry many accessories that are just not readily available in other bike shops in Chicago, including inexpensive racks with an integrated sprung arm to hold the items on the rack, inexpensive sprung bicycle seats (for comfortable urban cycling), generator lights, many basket options, etc. They are a very small local neighborhood type shop. I'm glad they were able to help you.
