Just a word about spin class.

Never eat a hefty portion of lasagna 45 minutes before spin class. Trust me on this one.

chipcom 02-20-07 07:48 PM

Did you save me the big pieces? :p

Imachad 02-20-07 07:49 PM

I am The Edge 02-20-07 07:57 PM

did you snarf through the nose or just the mouth?

PATH 02-20-07 08:07 PM

Mouth burps with a nose burn and that nauseating feeling that only fatty foods can give. I promise to save the chunks for you next time out if I lose it Chipcom!:D

It burns! It burns!

Two meals for the price of one... what a bargain!

TomatoSue 02-22-07 12:02 AM

I wouldn't liked to have been the person on the bike in front of you. Or behind you for that matter...

45 minutes? I think if it's safe to swim 30 minutes after, then it's certainly safe for spin class. Don't trust this guy. He's not going to catch up as you fall backwards.

Boudicca 02-22-07 05:11 PM

Two slices of pizza has much the same effect.

Ugh

OK was this rude... I went to a new spin class this morning - started at 5:30am. I'm sortof awake. Got there are 5a to warm up. The instructor comes in (late) cranked up her microphone and starts spitting commands at us. She then turns on her acid, heavy metal music at level 10 and then proceeded to try and shout over the music. SHe wouldn't shut up. SHe also did a goofy class. She rode on level 10 almost the whole class - if I wanted to do leg weights I would have gone and done leg weights.

So I got off the bike, picked up my iPod, plugged in the earbuds and cranked up my own music and did my own thing. Pretty obvious I was no longer participating in her program.

Was I wrong????

Boudicca 02-22-07 07:25 PM

Yes you were wrong. If you don't like the class, go off and do your own thing by all means, but leave the spinning room and do it somewhere else. She presumably has her faithful following and maybe they like acid, heavy metal music at 530 am,. It takes all sorts.

Wrong?
Not a chance. You paid for it. It's a shame there are so many bad
spin instructors.

You should have eaten lasagna 45 minutes before class, then you could have at least left a deposit...

ezpickens 02-25-07 07:39 PM

Funny thing, it's the same way at the gym I have been going to. Maybe there's another class/instructor more to your liking? The loud obnoxious one at this place always has a full room, so somebody likes it. Fortunately there is also at least one great one who just does everything way better. Could they both be Certified Instructors?

Fivetenfrank 02-25-07 07:51 PM

I do that all the time. Its not that I dont like the instructor, or her sh*tty music.

I do not own a trainer and when its 25 degrees out I am not riding outside. At my gym, the only bikes I like to ride are the spin bikes (which are Keisers, and they feel a hell of alot like my tri bike, especially when I pretend I am riding on the aero bars). I cant stand the LifeCycles or the Cybex bikes in the gym. The seats are huge and the bikes feel nothing like a real bike.

So, sometimes, in the morning, I am forced to sit in the spin class because I want to ride the bike. However, I have actually spoken to the two instructors prior and told them not to take it personally if I am listening to my ipod. Additionally, I usually pick a bike in the bike row in the corner so as not to draw attention to myself when I am doing a five minute standing climb while the other 20 people are hovering, running, jumping and whatever else they do in the class. You may want to do the same thing.

I actually take the class every now and then, just to get my HR up to levels that I just cant get to on my own. The rest of the people think I am a kook because I come into class 30 minutes early and stay 30 minutes after class is finished
