Got any good ideas for "flyers" advertising bike safety classes?

I'm not a graphic artist but I'm trying to make my flyers advertising bike classes a little more eye-catching. Got any good ideas that I can use to improve mine? Thanks.

Well, do you have any current examples you could show us? Perhaps that would get our creative juices going.

Are you teaching the Road courses the LAB offers? If you are I think they provide the flyers for those courses.

See the attachments to see what my assistant and I have come up with. I know, pretty lane.

Yes. Our director wants to stick with the old name of Effective Cycling rather than call them Road I.

Where are you putting the flyers? Colours of the flyers? Are any of the words coloured (for instance, is SAFE a different colour than the rest of the text?

I'm not much enamoured of the Ride Better! Ride Safer! flyer, but the Feel Safe? has some promise...in my humble opinion...

The flyers are printed on our copy machine (black toner) on bright yellow or pale green paper.

That's the one my assistant came up with.

The flyers are displayed in bike shops, libraries, YMCA, community centers. etc.

FYI: The first flyer doesn't have a location because it will be circulated around a university campus and we don't want people to just show up without registering. That happened once before. We had 8 people registered and 14 people showed up. The instructor was somewhat overwhelmed and naturally didn't have enough manuals or handouts for everyone.

I told you it was my humble opinion, Ron! The Ride Better flyer seems a bit crowded to me, that's all. It's a bit easier on the eyes with the Feel Safe? flyer.

Let me mull this over. Who knows, you may get a real graphic artist to join in.

Just out of curiousity do people actually show up for these classes? Most everyone who rides a bike feels the way they ride is the right way and anyone trying to tell them different is an idiot. ((Plenty of examples of that here on BF)) Well thats my experience anyway. Where I live you have more idiots riding on the left side of the road then you have on the right and I won't even get started about the people wearing all black at night with no lights on their bikes. Of course you couldn't tell these people anything about proper bike safety, after they'll tell you it's the people driving the cars job to look out for them and to stop in time not theirs.

Most people, especially new cyclists, don't know the "right way" to ride. That's why LAB developed the cirriculum many years ago.

We have been offering these classes every spring and fall for over 10 years and the classes almost always fill. Some classes are so popular that we have more people registering that we can handle and we either turn them away, refer them to another class, or add a class.
Here is our latest schedule.
http://www.atlantabike.org/EC.html#EC6

Click below to read about the program.
http://www.atlantabike.org/ec.html

The program is based on LAB's Road I course. All of our instructors are LCIs (trained by LAB).

Just because I know how to ride a bike does not mean I know how to ride a bike safely in traffic. The courses vary from Beginner to Basic to Commuter, with an optional Certification Class for being named a "certified Effective Cyclist".

The more advanced Commuter class teaches all sorts of good stuff, including riding at night, riding in inclement weather, how to choose a commute route, and much more.

If I lived in Atlanta, I'd probably have already taken the course!

Still mulling over flyers...

Hi Ron,
I was just getting ready to leave work today and decided to throw a flyer together for fun.
Attached you'll see what I came up with and the poster that I <strike>ripped off</strike>...er, was inspired by.

Darn, that's close to what I was envisioning, except mine would have had the cyclist being sent head over teakettle over the car.

It would still be nice if you could get a change of colour for the word SAFE.

OR, you could steal some ideas from the 'Are these photos real' threads, and say something like--Is this how you think of your commute? Learn to ride safe and enjoy that commute instead!

I designed the flyer in greyscale since Ron mentioned that the flyers are photocopied and not sent through a color printer.

Thanks for all the replies. Good ideas but things have changed. I resigned today so after Wednesday (2/28) I will not be working for a Bicycle Advocacy organization and may or may not be teaching classes. I'll be working for a bike shop starting Thursday (3/1).

It's good because I'll be working with folks I've known for quite a while and like.
I'll miss some things about my old job.
