'06 zebrano vs '07 tiburon

i'm looking to get back into biking after taking a break over the winter. i found an lbs with an '06 zebrano for $299 which is the most i want to spend on a bike right now. so i go there asking to check it out and thw woman said the frame was too small (15 inch) for me (i'm 5'6") and wouldn't sell me one because it wasn't the right size. this morning i went to another lbs and tried out the tiburon which was also a 15 inch frame, which was what the guy recommended for me, only it was $329. should i go back to the first lbs and get the zebrano?

Did you actually ride the bike? Did the first LBS person explain to you why she thought it was too small? If I remember correctly, the 15 inch is a woman's model, and it is the smallest size. It would fit me quite well (I'm only 5 feet tall), and she may have thought you should go with the 17.5 inch model.

You're the customer, but if you purchase the 15 inch bike, you may find that it is too small. Also, I think the Tiburon is a step down in the hierarchy, so you'd be getting a lesser bike.

I would definitely recommend riding the Zebrano and see how it feels. Try to make it a longish ride, around an hour or so if the LBS will allow you to do so.

they're both 15 inch frames. i rode the tiburon today but if i could get the zebrano for less i'd rather get that one. the guy at the lbs today said that there should be 2 inches of clearance between the frame and "the boys" and with the 15 inch tiburon it was pretty close. i think a 17 inch frame may be too big for me.

Well, the Zebrano appears to be a better bike, and it costs less on sale. So, take the Zebrano for a ride, and if you like it, buy it. You're the customer, and you may have short legs, long torso, etc., that may result in the 15 inch being a better fit for you.

Let us know how it goes.
