$250 Cannondale - Any Way This Could Be a Bad Deal?
I found a "1998ish" red Cannodale road bike for sale for $250. The pictures of it looked good, it had Shimano 600 components, Mavic wheels, and Shimano STI shifters, NOT down tube shifters.
I couldn't find any more info. -- no model number, no exact year, nothing. Assuming the bike is in good condition, and without any mechanical problems, is this a really great deal that I should snatch up ASAP? Or if I should just let it go? Thanks!

Looks good on paper. Just inspect the welded joints for cracks. If the shifters don't work, don't let that be a deal breaker, as they can be brought back to life with WD-40 sprayed into the shifter mechanisms and probably a new set of cable. Make sure the wheels are straight and true and ask if the bike has ever been raced and/or wrecked.

If it is good condition, does not need any repairs, isn't stolen, and is your size, that is a heck of a deal. An Ultegra level Cannondale would come with wheels that are worth that much.
Be sure the bike really does fit you. Sometimes, when someone is getting a good deal, they think "Well, it kinda fits, and its a good price..." You'll be happier if the bike is precisely the correct size for your physique and riding style.

Well, I'm 5'6", and it's way too big for me. Sounds like about your size.

Shimano dropped the '600' and replaced it with just 'Ultegra' in 1998. Parts with the 'Shimano 600' logo are 1997 or older. Eight or seven cogs on the rear? Still, $250 isn't a bad deal either way, if it fits you.

As always, thanks for responses, guys!
I've been looking around and there's no way it's fitting me.
Oh well!

We're talking compact measurement though...I'm 5'7" or 5'8" and my multispeed road bike is a 50cm Nishiki. a 56 would be more than two inches taller, which might just be enough for you to fit. Can you test ride it?
