"I want a purple bike"

A co-worker asks for suggestions on a $250-$400 bike for bike paths and trails. After finding out a bit more I offer her links to Jamis Coda, Terry Susan B (stretching the price), some Treks. Here is the e-mail response I got:
"I will incorporate all your suggestions re the bike but i have to say im going to go for one thing above all: purple"

I'm guessing you meant trails, not trials (small bikes for hopping around on).

I would bluntly tell her that if she really is interested in riding she should consider bike fit and comfort over anything else at this point. She may get a purple bike, but she'll never ride it if she is not comfortable on it. Maybe she could get a neutral color bike, and add purple accessories later on (grips, bar tape, anodized mountain bike parts from the mid '90s, etc) if she felt it necessary.

Hold on--- The only anodised parts I can remember from the 90's- or at least the early 90's, were made of titanium. Better tell her to up the price.

You have to talk to her- Bike fit is the important thing so try to show her this Forum and how important fit is above all else.

I'll get her purple streamers.

Klien made an xc bike a few years ago & the color shifted from orange to purple depending upon how the light hit it.

Reminds me of my son when he was five.

The wife and I, "What bike should we get him?"

Him, "PURPLE!!"

I thought it was red that added horsepower.

My "bike-that-got-away" was a beautiful purple 3Rensho road bike that looked simply amazing. This was back in the late 1980's but I still think about that bike.

+1 4 Purple!
Santa brought me my first new bike and it was a purple Huffy Chopper!

And my Colnago is purple. Lavender actually, depends on how the light hits it.
It was blue. Then a friend gave me some Deltron to try. So now the Colnago is lavender.
That was my very first Deltron paintjob.
And now it's a place to hang a Super Record titanium driveline & brakes. 27" MA40's laced to Bullseye hubs (red) Phil Wood BB, Mavic SSC headset, Cinelli stem/bars and a Jaques Boyer autographed saddle.
No, it sadly never gets ridden anymore. But that's another thread...

Now I think I'll paint my CrossRoads PURPLE!!

THE Purple bike

My wife insisted on a purple bike about 9 months ago for light riding. We found the Electra Karma (look under ladies fashion bikes)to be VERY PURPLE. Three speed internal hub with coaster brakes, fenders, cushy seat, plenty of understated bling--and yes tassels (tie ups for the leather grips). Perfect for the bike path with a list of $420. I encouraged her to get something more practical and we did-in addition.

Seriously, she smiles every time she looks at it (like me and my Madone 5.2---ahhhhhhh). It truly is THE purple bike.

I have a 56 cm Centurion Ironman Master that is purple and white in great shape. It is not for sale, but for $400 I would seriously consider it.

Tnx for offer LD. 56 cm is way too big -- I think she's about 5' 2". She thought the Karma was really cool but a probably a little heavy. She's seen this thread and got the message on fit. There is a surprising amount of loyalty to purple in this crowd!

A little more than she had in mind spending, but a great shade of purple (my wife has one!), and a decent bike to boot!

Nah. Purple will never be the new red, because red is red. Everyone knows that red bikes are faster.

So why is one of mine black?

Little Darwin, you forgot to mention that the Centurion comes accessorised with a gorgeous purple water bottle cage!

Perhaps I need to get a purple bike. I've got blue, red, gold, dusty rose, salmon pink/white, black. But no purple. Or green, for that matter. Root beer?
