In response to Nabil01's response...why do I want the thing in the first place? I think you are on another planet man!.
It is not to take on my normal ride around town...I will not take it and my camera on the 3k ride to the shops. It is for a 10 week trip through Europe where I would like a bit of music for my 28 hour flight each way from Australia (including two stopovers in Singapore and Frankfurt) I also like to take a few pics...on my last trip I averages 30 per day (ie 30mb x 66 days = 2 gig) I will be in Budapest, Vienna, Prague, Cesky Krumlov, Salzburg, the Dolomites, Italy....plenty of different intersections to take pics of!
Currently I have an MP3 player but it has decided to stop reading the memory cards (it is buggered!!) and I am very experienced at riding with music playing.(15,000kms in the past 2 years) It is not up loud and I can hear very quiet cars driving behind me...and dogs, other cyclists, etc. I have no problems concentrating...in fact when I was at college I always studied with the radio on in the back ground. The music breaks the monotiny when riding solo...and if need be I can turn it off.
If you want to start a discussion on the morals of riding with music playing please start another thread. All I want to know is can a hdd MP3 player handle riding and so far the educated opinion indicates they are ok.
Thany you all for your responses so far.
