A 'lil jittery after getting hit
Last August I was riding in traffic and got hit pretty hard. I ended up in the hospital for a day recovering from various aches pains. Since the accident I have been 'super aware' of traffic -- even just walking across busy streets.
So, good riding weather is back in MI and I just bought a shiney new bike with my income tax refund. 'Cept I'm beginning to wonder what it will be like riding on the streets again...
Actually -- I'm almost afraid that I'm gonna be riding afraid and really get it good.
Oh well, guess I will find out this weekend. Anybody got advice or experience?

Be careful, but get some miles under your belt at a pace that you're comfortable with. I've been jacked up a couple of times, and it takes time to be comfortable again.

Sucks that you got hit. I would say take it slow, but do not play it safe by riding a different style then you are used too i.e. VC, or on the sidewalk.... Ride how you always do and just work you confidence level back up.

I have riden a bike since 15years old. I am 58 now. I have had every conceivable thing happen to me, including being hit by a car. Your hesitancy to ride is normal and will take time to overcome. I remember after being hit by a deer, that I used to see deer behind every bush. That lasted over a year. But it is gone now. Time and continued biking overcomes all problems eventually.

A while back, I collided with a car that stopped suddenly and then tried to make a right turn - directly in front of my friend and I. Luckily I had no serious injuries, although my bike had an extended recovery in the bike hospital.
It took me a while to get comfortable riding in traffic again - you just have to get out there and do it at a level that's right for you. Even so I made my first 'successful' commute 3 days ago and I was a little nervous until it was done. Mission accomplished - a nice commute to/from work - no rescue vehicles or law enforcement officers involved.
