I love watching both of those videos...

Something I have never asked, why do trials bikes have seats? They are certainly not to sit on. Is there a law that bikes have to have seats or something.

The BMX forum folks would tell you that certain tricks are done by grabbing the seat. I can't watch those videos here, but I would imagine that that could be the case in trials as well.

You occasionally sit down to relax. I personally think the bigger thing is it feels better to hit the seat on a hard landing than the top tube.

Nice videos. I swear I've seen the Ryan Leech vid before, but with a different sound track. It's a trailer for one of his feature films.

Hard landing I hadn't though of, and I can buy that. But, I can't imagine sitting on a seat to relaxiwith your knees under your chin...

The trials seat is more to keep you from castrating yourself than anything. There are several models of trials bikes now that do not have a functional seat tube.

I got to see Ryan Leech at the Seattle Bike Expo--I was impressed, needless to say. He struck me as being a really nice guy, too.

Pertaining to bikes with no seats, I rode with a man on the Great River Trail who had his bike designed with no seat. He had just finished riding the RAGBRAI. I was impressed, but his riding position looked uncomfortable to me.

The videos are impressive also.

Actually the lack of a seat is to keep you from castrating yourself and provide more standover for tucking. And, actually there are only a few trials bikes that come with a functional seat tube. I have no seat and my cranks are longer than my seat tube. I sit on the top tube or on a rock/pallet when I'm resting.
