How much Lube?

I searced and found great information on cleaning my chain. But after I clean it, how much lube does it need? I'm using tri-flow. I know when I use too much, dirt seems to be attracted easily. Is using too little also a danger...how do you know?

I use triflow for my chain as well. You have the little plastic straw type thing right? I normally wipe my chain down real good, then put a dap of lube on each link. I then spin the chain around a few times then let it sit. After that I wipe it down real good again. Trying to get the unused lube wiped off to avoid the dirt problem. After my first ride post lube I wipe down the chain again to wipe up any lube that worked itself out and any dirt that got attached. Then Im normally good for a week or so until I do it all over.

I like Tri-flow for my road bike, but it does have a tendancy to collect dirt. Wiping excess off as stated above helps tremendously. But yes, I put a drop on each link, back pedal for about a minute to ensure proper penetration, let sit for a few minutes, back pedal again while holding the chain with a rag in my free hand to wipe off excess.

I use a parrafin based lube like White Lightning, or Krytech for my mountain bike. The wax (parrafin) is the carrier agent for the lube, and once it dries, it flakes off, taking the dirt with it. Only problem is you have to reapply the lube more often.
