First Bike

Tell us about your first bike...what age were you? Did anyone help you learn to ride?

I remember my first bike. I don't think they came with training wheels back then...know mine didn't have any. It was blue and white. My Dad would run along beside me holding onto the back of the seat. I would do fine until I saw he had turned loose.
I learned in a city park in Jacksonville, Florida. I was six years old. Dad wouldn't allow Mom to come with us because she was afraid I was going to break bones or worse. Gosh, that was in 1938. Having a bike has always been a part of my life...even when I seldom rode. I gave bikes to my sons early and one is still riding (primarily off road) every chance he gets.

Blue Columbia cruiser. I was 5 years old at the time. I had training wheels on it of course. I taught myself to ride on that bike. My parents were not very supportive of my biking even when I was a kid. I only got a bike because I begged for one. I took the training wheels off myself. It was one of the most memorable moments of my life... as memorable as the first time I solo'ed while learning to fly.

I canít remember my first bike or learning how to ride, however I do have some recollections of having my training wheels removed. Me, my brother and some friends used to put old clunkers together, adding sissy bars, banana seats, extending the forks and adding ape hanger handlebars. Then one year my parents bought me a new 5-speed road bike and it took me less then a week to rear end a car!

Well my first bicycle was a 28" old standard single speed.I was in grade three and I had to ride it to school in the winter time about 2 miles to school.
Just think how small I was and just think how big those old 28" old standard bicycles were...by the way it was a ladies
bicycle.I don't know how I ever managed
when I look back

Back in the day.. **smirks** i remember exactly what my first bike was. i got it from walmart. and it was a 20 in. greay base - black and white splatter paint huffy dirt dog. one of the toughest bikes i ever had. it took me nearly 6 years of trying (remember i was little then) to taco those tires. and then i just bent them back - not even knowing what trueing ment - and road them more. only break it had, was the back pedal. oh the memories. never did let it go until my dad made me put in in the trash can. then i would just take it out again. now im working at a bike shop. teaches him to tell me to throw my bike away

I got a BMX when I was 6yrs old... It was a black Haro odessey brakes, stem, crank(i don't know if its called a groupset but it had odyssey components through out). I rode it till I was 12(then I had three BMX bikes). At 13, I got my first MTB(GT cr-mo), a few months later my first road(tange prestige tubeset)...

I got my first bike just recently, one that I can call my own that is. The first unofficial bike I own is a really heavy hardtail, over 20kg in weight. It was given to me by my uncle, since my grandfather heard that I really like cycling and my uncle have a couple of bikes.

I learnt to ride rather quickly, only a few hours of work to get riding on the bike, without any training wheels. It was a bike that was kinda uncomfortable, it was way over my inseam and I had some difficulty mounting onto it. Luckily, it was those kinda bike with rather small wheels, those that look foldable. I learnt it in my father's workplace, where there are machines around. He helped me a little at the beginning, but after a while, he had some work to do and I was really busy trying to learn how to cycle. I was 12 then, learnt it rather quickly and I am very proud of myself.

Now that I've got my new bike, there's sort of a renewed interest in cycling. It's a 2003 Trek 2200, really cool looking bike and I have put quite a decent mileage on it so far. I'm proud of myself once again. hehe
