The Quest for Truth about Exercise and Health

So why do I ride a bike?

Well I'm cheap, and a bike is cheaper than a car or taking the bus.

I always have felt it was fun, and we all like doing fun stuff.

I was reading the Globe and Mail this morning and in the book review section was a review of Ultimate Fitness: The Quest for Truth about Exercise and Health By Gina Kolata .

at the end of the review it said,

" At the heart of Kolata's book is a mind-body relationship of challenge and satisfaction that is nearly spiritual. "Exercise makes me feel exhilarated and strong, it makes me feel focused: Kolata writes. The text concludes with a quote from Richard Friedman, a swimmer and psychopharmacologist at the Cornell medical school. Asked by Kolata for the truth about exercise, he ventures that "the real values of it is not in terms of health benefits like longevity - an extra few hours or maybe months - but because it feels good when you do it or when it's over. To hell with Hygeia; the truth lies in pleasure."

and I guess that's it for me, it always feels good when you do it or when it's over!(it must be spiritual)

:D

Unfortuantely, your image looks like someone who is far from achieving spiritual enlightenment! :D

I ride for health reasons first, spiritual reasons second. I love going out and clearing up my head with a long ride. I never come back from a ride upset, even when the traffic gets crazy a bit at times...

i ride because it's fun... the endorphins keep me going. burning calories is a good bonus as well.

I'm with funk. I ride for the rush of progression or the rush of doing something really difficult or scarey. Part that, calories burned is just an added benfit :)

Sssshh,
I've got my self self-hypnotized that I only do this for FUN. If my body finds out it's exercise it will want to stay on the couch and eat Cheetos all day!!!
