New Cyclist...
I don't know if this is the right forum to post this question, but I will try it anyway. I am new to cycling and thinking about spending some money on a good road bike. I am about 6'1", 215 lbs, I have always been active. I sprinted on the track team in college. Well I am looking at three or four bikes. They are the Trek 1000, 1500, Cannondale sport sypnase, and the Felt 75.

Good fit, good assembly, good wheel truing, and a good tune-up are the key to enjoying a road bike. The Trek 1000 is one of the two or three road bikes in the $600 to $800 price range that have consistently gotten top ratings from the editors at "Cycling Plus" and other magazines that test and compare bikes.
Visit every shop within five miles or so from home, and buy from the shop where they make it clear that customer service is their top priority.
Because of your weight, having wheels that are perfectly true is very important. A guy who weighs over 200 pounds will get good service from perfectly true wheels with beefy 28mm wide tires. But, if you are using wheels that are slightly out of true, and 23mm tires, you are likely to have some problems.
Good shops true the wheels before the sale, and will retrue them at the "free" thirty day tune-up. Later on, consider buying an extra set of wheels that are designed for someone your size. The typical "standard" road bike wheel is designed for riders who weigh between 110 pounds and 170 pounds. Heavier riders need sturdier wheels and tires.
