Helmet Chinstrap Road v Off-Road
My helmet, made for mountain biking, is great...fits great, comfortable, light, cool...ON MY MOUNTAIN BIKE. When on my roadie, the chinstrap cuts a little into my throat when I'm in the drops. HUH?!?!?! Are road helmets made with the chinstrap a little forward, or do I need to adjust the strap differently? I'd rather buy a whole new helmet cuz the one I have FITS. Any ideas or suggestions???

Two H's!!! TWO!!!!!
An obvious question: can you adjust the strap so that it's not cutting into your throat in the drops but is still not loose in a more upright position? If you can, that's where I'd leave it. You're not overtightening your strap to start with, are you? You should be able to put a couple of fingers under the strap and things like opening your mouth should feel comfortable.

Have you tried feeding the forward strap through the turnbuckles that gather the hangers to the chin strap towards the front a little? (Was that more than a little confusing?) I think you know what I mean.
I found mine cuts a little deeper in January after I suffer through the Holiday meals than in June when I lose a few pounds! Blessings.

The difference is in how much your neck is bent. On a mountain bike, your torso is more upright, so your neck isn't bent vert much. On a road bike, especially in the drops, your torso is much closer to horizontal, so your neck is bent back a lot more. You just need to loosen the chin strap a little when riding your road bike.

I was told the only difference between a mtn and road helmet is the visor ...
