The ultimate tire?

I'm looking for recommendations for a set of 26" tires somewhere between road slicks and all-out knobby monsters with loads of puncture resistance. I don't plan on hitting any trails (but it would be nice to have the option), but I'd like to have some traction for wet days and the occasional dirt or limestone path. I don't mind paying a little more for them if they're going to stand up to a beating and rise to any occasion on the trip to work.

Any suggestions on the uber tire?

Well, I can tell you what AIN'T the ultimate tire- Continental Sport 1000.

God, I hate those tires- can't wait to wear them down so I can buy some good Michelins or some Specialized tires!

This one: http://www.nashbar.com/profile.cfm?c...ype=&estoreid=

I don't think they're produced anymore. Wait, I'm incorrect, WTB does list them at their site still: http://www.wtb.com/allterrain_195.html

Specialized Armadillo Hemispheres. $30 direct from their website. After 2000 miles on Armadillos (Hemispheres and Turbos) I've yet to flat. I ride on some pretty junky roads too.
