    what would you do if...?

so anyone who's ever been in Baltimore (or many other large cities i presume) knows that you gotta go through a "ghetto" or two to get to many spots in the city, well i'm driving across town yesterday and i see this guy turn the corner on a Kestrel tri bike that he had clearly either stolen or bought from someone who had. i was furious for several hours afterwards, but i felt like there was nothing that i could do. what would you do if you had seen something like this?

You are assuming he was not just passing through the {ghetto** like you were. What told you he was not the legal owner of the bike? You probably also assume all pro racers are dopers.

he was about 6 inches too short for the bike, had on a dirty basketball jersey, torn shorts, open-laced sneakers, old backpack.

don't tell me you would look at every person you've ever seen in a major city and would think if you saw them on a several thousand dollar tri bike "oh that's a mighty fine ride they got there"

Was he black? Because that would seal the deal.

So you saw a black dude not dressed up like a roadie, in a supposed ghetto, on a nice bike that was too big for him...so he must have stole it. How white of you.

I can't count how many times I have been stopped and checked out by cops while riding through 'nice' neighborhoods because 'good citizens' think anyone who doesn't look or dress like them are up to no good.

If I rode around in a platinum wig with facial hair, I'd get stopped too.

Well you have 2 choices the way i see it...
    1) cut him off with your car & proceed to stomp on him then take bike & try to find the real owner.

    2) call police while non chalauntly following him around.

Do you have a point there, other than the one on your head, junior?

Damn, is that why I keep getting stopped? I will have to switch to the Cher wig for commuting

Is it a racist response to lock the doors of your bike while riding thru the "ghetto"?

That's what we're waiting for from you...concerning your original response to me. Now did you have some point you were trying to make?

We? Well the wait is what makes it real juicy, isn't it & as for the rest ... Very weak fishing, especially when considering you are the "infamous member" of BF.

Ok, we've established that you have no point, that you have a thing for my centerfold and that you can't communicate. Keep going, in about another hundred posts you might actually be able to put them all together to form an actual thought.

Ideally, catch the guy. Buy the bike and take a video (which does involve certain risks). Then find the owner, and bust the guy who stole the bike.

    Or ride alongside and photograph.

Or call police on a cell phone (they may not respond, but it might be worth a try).

Follow the guy discreetly, photograph discreetly if possible; get an idea where he lives. Call police. Try to locate owner of bike. Check to see if bike turns up for sale somewhere.

Arrange sting operation to catch this guy and others like him.

Find owner of bike, who is probably highly motivated to help do something about this situation and others like it.

Recruit a set of motivated people (including victims) who are ready to act. Form a group. Brainstorm. Do something.
